My current job and use of digital tools
I work at home care in Kuopio. I am service supervisor in Virtual home care and safety center. We need technology solutions for production of our work. In virtual home care we use VideoVisit for a video contact to take care of our patients. In safety center the most common device is safety wrist, electric lock and door alarm. All those devices need a program, and we also need to have an own program for receive alerts.
When I come to work, I open my computer and log in to my work time. We use Nepton for monitoring working hours. Then I open my email program and calendar. Teams is open also all the time, I use that with my employees a lot.
I must plan shifts for my employees in every three weeks. We use for that Titania, but before I start to make shift planning, employees can make their requests in the WebTitania. Titania and WebTitania has integration and after planning employees see their shifts in the mobile application. Overall, we have a lot of different programs to use in weekly, almost daily. Here are some examples:
- ESS for own and employee personnel in matters such as vacation, education, employment contract etc.
- Kuntarekry for recruitment for long term or just for couple days, for acute need
- Hilkka, an enterprise resource planning and customer information system for home care. Employees daily work is planned here. This program is also safe to send information for another teams about patients.
- Smooth, our safety devices coming from 9solution. They have their own program where is information about the patient or customer, what kind of devices patient is using etc.
Social media
Social media is included in everyday life. Today is almost odd if you don´t use any applications. I use social media for contacting people. It is good to have information about training groups or contact with classmates, or friends for all over the word. I think I am little pit poor in using social media, I don´t share information about my life or professional interests.
Negative sight about social media is, that sometimes the truth about real life is not in the social media. Pictures are filtered and you show the best side of your life. You must understand how social media works. People are commenting things unkindly and more hotheaded. Social media is making our life more hectic. Also, there is possibility to be hacked and there is also criminalization.
New tools to my daily work
I tried to find couple digital application what we have in Kuopio, but I don´t use it in my work yet. Some of those are new for me and some I knew.
LinkedIn is an application to where you can put your profile, your professional identity. I joined in LinkedIn just for couple months ago. I think this application is quite positive. People share knowledge, news, network with others, hiring new employees and find new jobs. You can see from LinkedIn what is important to you professionally. I think we can use thins application for hiring people.
Miro
Miro is a platform tool for planning, for example projects. It is like a whiteboard for visual collaboration. You can use notes, leave comments, brainstorming etc. We have a possibility to have id for this platform. I haven´t use this, but I have heard a lot of good things about it. One reason for not to take this for use is that it is new applications for us, and we have just few persons who use this actively.
Evernote
Evernote is for organization, you can make notes, project planning, you can save web pages, pdf, photos etc. You can use this app in any browser you need, there is also integration with some applications for example, google drive, outlook, MS Teams.
Vimeo
We don´t use enough videos in our work. I think video tells more than power point or written instructions. I have made only one video for virtual home care. We choose vimeo, because you can editi video later if you must change something, for example contact details.
TikTok
TikTok is video focused social network. Kuopio swimming hall lifeguards use this application and I think those videos are funny and bring some happiness. Why won’t we use this in elderly care, it might be good marketing for getting employees?
Self evaluation
This was interesting assignment. It is funny how we use just a few applications in our work. There is lot of opportunities. It was hard to think how I can use better different programs. I also think it is important to think more deeply about programs you use, are you using those programs enough, is there another way to use it. I think we must be open and use social media more for marketing and to get more visibility.
