My job and use of digital tools at work

I work as a team leader in Ponsse’s marketing team. My main responsibilities are taking care of Ponsse Brand Experience in events and shows, product launches, customer visits and factory tours and focus on developing customer experience. My own separate responsibility area is Ponsse Collection clothing line and Ponsse Shop -web shop.

In marketing department we are using lots of different digital tools.  I have listed below some of them:

Social media: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and Twitter.

Projects: Teams, Trello and Jira.

Communication: E-mail, Teams and WhatsApp

Information sharing: Ponsse Material bank, WeTransfer, One Drive and Dropbox

Surveys: Webropol

Self-study: Ispring

Marketing & CRM: Salesforce, Marketing Cloud

Social Media

I use social media every day. It has become an inseparable part of my life. I think that this is the situation for most of the people right now. It’s like an addiction and use of social media is very hard to reduce.

I’m using social media also every day at work. Today SoMe is a must be place for companies, if you are not there, you don’t exist. Companies brand identies are built in Social Media channels. Not to mention the importance of digital marketing. Effective digital marketing in different channels can bring significant results. You don’t have to be a big company to succeed in social media, just need to know what you are doing.

New Social media tools for daily work

I chose these five Social Media tools: Evernote, Miro, Slack, TikTok and Todoist. I chose these based on usability in my own work. Some of these are already in use at Ponsse but I don’t personally use them right now. Some of these totally are new tools for me but I think they could help me in my daily work.

Evernote

My workday is usually a mess. Many different projects are ongoing, messages and tasks coming from many different channels. For many times I forget the things I have promised to do if I don’t write those down. Then I have notes on my desk at work and at home, all a big mess.

With Evernote it would be possible to keep notes and arrange those freely, save pictures, web pages and PDF’s It can also be integrated with for example Teams and Outlook. With this app it’s possible to store all needed notes and create task lists.

Miro

Miro is an online whiteboard for easy collaboration. The possibility to use digital whiteboard are endless. I would utilize Miro for group works and brainstorming sessions. Miro seems to be easy to use with sticky notes and ready templates. It’s also possible to add other documents and integrate Miro to other applications like Jira.

Slack

Slack is a tool that we have in use at Ponsse. I haven’t used this tool yet, so it was interesting to check this tool out. Slack is a platform for your team and your work. Slack includes channels where people can share ideas, make decisions and move work forward. According to Slack, channels bring order and clarity to work. Channel can be created for every project, topic or team. With help of Slack it’s possible to also work with people outside your company. Co-operation will be secure with Slack’s enterprise-grade security features and compliance standards.

Slack would be useful tool for different projects with our partners. It would be possible to share information and communicate at the same place, no need for separate e-mails. Slack provides handbook for marketing teams with good usage tips. I think it would be possible to add efficiency in our team with Slack.

TikTok

TikTok is a video-focused social networking service owned by Chinese company ByteDance Ltd. It hosts a variety of short-form user videos, from genres like pranks, stunts, tricks, jokes, dance, and entertainment with durations from 15 seconds to three minutes. (Wikipedia) TikTok is a channel that is popular with younger consumers. It is fastest growing Social Media channel at the moment.

I would use TikTok for marketing purposes. We haven’t done TikTok style videos at Ponsse yet, but why couldn’t we show our products also in short videos filmed in a forest. YouTube is a popular channel for us so this could be a good idea to test. TikTok marketing is much cheaper than marketing in traditional Social Media channels. TikTok trends can be used smartly to grow business.

Todoist

Todoist promises control! With this application you can create task lists and it’s not necessary anymore to remember what to do next. Just create task list, prioritize your tasks and add due date. When task is done, just click it done and move for the next one.

This application would help me to keep up all my tasks at work and at home. I’m living a busy life as a mother of three children and there is huge number of things needed to be remembered. I am always doing something and there’s always things to do. It would be very satisfying to see all the things I’m achieving for example in one week time period, both home and work related.

Elements of the good digital application

In my opinion the most important element of successful use of digital application is usability. Application needs to be easy and handy to use.  Application has to also give significant benefits for user, contain all needed elements to simplify and speed up the work. Also visuality is important for me. Pleasant colors and shapes in application encourage to use and create positive feelings.

Self evaluation

My life seems to be full of different kind of digital tools. I use many of them at work and also free time. I think that the biggest reason for using some tool is that it makes my life a bit easier. That is why I think it was very useful to check out new digital applications. Could be that I will test some of them quite soon!
