ePLATFORMS

MY WORKDAY AND ePLATFORMS

I work as an operating room nurse in the specialty of neurosurgery. In my work, my job is to prepare the patient for surgery and act either as a surgeon’s assistant in surgery or as a supervising nurse. In my work, I use various medical devices and their software on a daily basis. In the role of supervising nurse, my job is to manage the technical equipment in the operating room, record information during surgery, write sample labels, consult specialists, etc. To handle these tasks, I need several different ePLATFORMS. Below I will tell you more about them.

BUZZ – Digital O.R

Buzz is the next generation operating room integration platform. It is a network-based central information hub that routes, displays, interacts, streams, records and enhances medical images, software content and videos.

Patient care systems

We currently use Esko systems’ patient information system ESKO. Surgery operations are organized using the LESU system. LESU system provide patient information, waiting times, urgency classes, etc. for each operating room. Lesu is also linked to the hospital’s other programs ja patient information system, which makes it possible to record patient data in the patient information system ESKO through LESU.

In addition, I use laboratorion (WEBLAB) and pathology (neaRis) systems to send samples.

Communication systems

With the help of Office 365 tools (Word) we update our operation instructions, manage email (Outlook) and participate in meetings through Teams. During the corona period, all training and information took place through Teams. With the help of PowerPoint, we create morning training materials, etc.

Titania and  Hessu is an HR system and whit Titania we plan shifts.

TOOLS I WOULD USE

WhatsApp or Signal

At the moment, there are several informal information relay groups operating in our ward. Communication between staff is done via WhatsApp. WhatsApp has not been accepted by the employer as an official communication channel due to its affiliation with the META company. In terms of privacy, a better option would be to use Signal. The problem with using Signal is its poor popularity. Almost all employees of our ward have a WhatsApp application on their own phone, which is used as a means of communication.

Due to the ban on using WhatsApp, overtime and extra job messages will continue to come as SMS, which is old-fashioned and entails expenses.

Instagram

Social media is a good platform to educate and communicate about different job and education opportunities to people. In the current work situation, all the positive marketing that can be obtained for the care sector should be utilized. The benefit of Instagram is its wide user base. Young people in particular use the app, so they would be the target audience for marketing. The strength of Instagram is also the interaction with users. I have noticed that several hospitals and surgery wards have already set up accounts. The challenge of utilizing social media is to find enthusiastic and interested content creators in our work community. However, when using social media, special attention must be paid to the privacy of patients.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a great app for networking. Through the application, it is possible to make your skills  and work history visible. Through LinkedIn, you strengthen your competence in healthcare sectors and stay up-to-date with phenomena.our career development can take different turns as different organizations look at your skills.

Asana

Asana is a good tool for development work and for carrying out various projects. You can use Asana to create memory and to-do lists and view and edit them through your phone. The mobile application format is one of the advantages of the application.

TikTok

TikTok is a social media platform where you can post videos. I have seen the North Ostrobothnia Rescue Department use the channel to educate and arouse interest in the rescue sector.

POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE SIDES OF SOCIAL MEDIA

Social media has become an integral part of our lives. The popularity of social media has grown by the free download of apps and the continuous development of applications. It seems that there is no limits, for example you can ordered through apps almost everything and companies are using social media for marketing.  Especially for small businesses, social media is a great place to get to know they products. The effects of social media can be positive (creating a positive image, marketing, education, quick communication, etc.), but also negative. As people’s awareness increases, as a public health professional, I had to be especially careful if I publish something related to my work. Patient privacy is the most important thing I need to protect. Overall people should pay more attention to privacy policity. Young people, in particular, don’t realize that pictures and videos uploaded to social media are unlikely never disappear from the internet. Another negative aspects of social media are sharing misinformation, spreading rumors, and internet bullying.

SELF EVALUTION

I’m familiar with the dangers of social media. I have reduced the use of social media platforms over the past few years because I noticed that they began to dominate my life too much. I found myself spending way too much time on my phone scrolling through Facebook. At the moment Instagram and Linked are the only platform that i use.

Before this course, I didn’t know most of the social media apps that were mentioned in the course material. I found a few apps that I can imagine using for scheduling schoolwork, taking notes, and planning the work phases of my thesis. Nyt there is so many apps to explore that my own interest in staying on the crest of the social media wave has disappeared.
