Digital health tools are a big part of the healthcare industry nowadays. Different digital tools are designed to streamline clinicals work, reduce human mistakes, optimize outdated systems, improve outcomes and also for improve outcomes. The corona pandemic showed how useful different digital services are. For example, in our ward, big part of patient´s visits were replaced by video receptions.

In health care we have different digital tools for example Telehealth, wearable technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

Telehealth — sometimes called telemedicine — lets your health care provider care for you without an in-person office visit. Telehealth is done primarily online with internet access on your computer, tablet, or smartphone. In our hospital, we use Terveyskylä as a telehealth tool. Patient can send and receive messages from helthcare provider, talk live to nurse or doctor or introduce different treatments instructions.

Wearable technology is transforming healthcare by putting care in the hands of patients. The technology provides round-the clock personalized medical data that can not only help patients stay on top of their fitnes but also create data that can then inform that patient´s doctor. One great example of wearable health technology is the Apple Heart Study app that was launched in 2017. It monitors heart rhythms and can alert users experiencing atrial fibrillation. Many our patients uses also Freelibre-sensors.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is having major impacts on the health industry by improving efficiency, cutting costs, providing information management and clinical decision support. The applications for AI in healthcare are vast from nurse aides that check stock to analyzation capabilities that can help provide better treatment and earlier diagnoses.
