DIGI CITIZEN
Kela
Kela’s services are intended for families with children, students, people of working age, pensioners who are entitled to benefits or assistance. Our family is only entitled to child benefit. My family and I have previously obtained European health insurance cards for holidays abroad.
Omakanta
Omakanta.fi is familiar at work and at home. I occasionally use omakanta.fi at work when I am dealing with a patient. I log in from kanta.fi, I log in with a mobile certificate because it’s a secure way to log in. I looked at my own health records in omakanta.fi.
Keva
My minimum retirement age is 66 years and 7 months, in 2044, my pension will be about half of my current gross salary. If I retire at 68 years and 5 months, in 2046, my pension will increase by €300/month.
Digital shops
I’m used to using booking.com, trivago.fi and hotels.com when looking for family accommodation for a holiday. I have found these travel-related digital online shops safe and secure. I have not been scammed. On these sites you can get special offers at low prices, I like that. The sites have clear descriptions of things like hotel room facilities with pictures. The sites also have customer experiences and reviews, which add to the credibility. I have found these digital shops to be reliable.
Radiopedia
“Radiopaedia’s mission is to create the best radiology reference the world has ever seen and to make it available for free, for ever, for all”. I use the Radiopedia website for my work, I can search for patient cases and articles. Radiopedia’s patient cases have images of radiographic findings, they are particularly important in my work as a sonographer. I have the opportunity to see what a patient’s ultrasound findings look like, to compare the images of the findings.
Digitalization and digital gap
Digitalisation has made life easier – no need to physically go to the bank or tax office, for example, and you can book a video appointment with your doctor. It is a shame that brick-and-mortar shops are closing their doors due to the popularity of online shopping. I like to buy clothes in a bricks-and-mortar store when I can try them on. I hate returning unsuitable purchases ordered online to the post office. The elderly in my family don’t know how to use digital services, they need support from us. We often help them and remind them not to answer unknown callers or give their bank details to the wrong people, because from their point of view digitalisation is not so safe.
What did I learn?
The exercise provoked thoughts about the ease of digitalisation and the dangers of digitalisation. It is important to know the limits of digitalisation. I would say that you have to be very critical about which internet sites you trust. Security is questionable ?

Hi Silja,
I have also used the Pihlajalinna Health app, it is a channel for me to discuss with the occupational health service, provided by the employer. I have liked using it for the same reason as you, I can’t answer my own phone at work and it is also challenging to call during the working day.

Hi Jenni,
I agree with you, Duodecim is a reliable site from a health professional’s point of view. We know that the articles are written by medical experts.

Hi Anne,
We have exactly the same thoughts about travel related sites, they are reliable and it’s nice to read customer reviews you can trust. The only thing that makes you think twice is to enter your credit card details when paying for the hotel.

Hi Minna,
Thank you for your article.
I use the same travel online shops as you, and for me they also seems to be safe and secure. I think from these sites you really find great offers at low prices, comparing booking directly from the hotels.
I also agree what you wrote about digitalization and digital gap.

Hey, Minna!
Radiopedia raise my interest. It is great that there is such a place where you can search for information in your own field, compare the images of radiograph and thus increase your expertise. The service will certainly make your job easier. I agree that online shopping has its downsides. If you live in a remote area, there may be travel expenses for returning products to the post office, so online shopping may not be cheaper. Digitalization can cause exclusion. Your family is a good example of how to prevent digital exclusion. You help your parents with digital services and warn them of scams. It is important to encourage the use of services and to raise awareness of the risks of e-services.

Hi,
I think we all have pretty similar experiences with at least Kela and Omakanta. Most of us have at some point looked for some health related information or information about Kela services. These websites are easy to access and use.
I also have similar experience with the online travel services you wrote about. Never been scammed *crossing fingers* and have found good deals online.
Wishing you good luck with your future studies!

Hi,
It’s reassuring to hear about your positive experiences with online travel booking platforms like booking.com, trivago.fi, and hotels.com. These sites offer convenience, security, and competitive prices, with detailed descriptions and customer reviews enhancing credibility. Radiopedia’s free access to radiology resources greatly benefits professionals like you, providing valuable patient case images for reference. However, the digital divide poses challenges, with some struggling to adapt to digital services. Supporting elderly family members in navigating digital platforms and ensuring online safety is crucial. While digitalization brings convenience, we must address accessibility and security concerns to ensure inclusivity and trust in the digital world.

Hi!
Radiopedia was a very interesting site to read about, I’ve never heard of it before. Thanks for the tip!
I have the same experiences as you regarding the need to help elder people with different platforms and services. Sometimes it feels frustrating to be the one who older family members ask for help and support but I’ve accepted my part.. I understand the need for help because e.g. the scams are sometimes so hard to recognize these days.
