I work as a sonographer and radiographer at a University hospital, and we do not use the social media tools mentioned below in my work at the hospital. The hospital uses our own electronic medical record systems for patient care, of which there are many, too many.

In my patient work I use, Esko systems (patient information system) Akseli ( patient positioning system) Nearis ( activity management system) , Oberon ( appointment booking system), Neagen ( image viewing ), Kaiku ( patient transport system) and SpeechMike ( speech recognition) etc. For one patient, we have to enter the patient’s data into several different systems, which is too time-consuming and laborious.

In my free time, I use some of the social media tools listed below, but most of them are unknown to me. This exercise is therefore a good opportunity to familiarise myself with new tools. Almost all my friends use or have used Facebook, I have never used it. My family and I decided not to use it because it would take up our time together, it was a good decision. I don’t feel like I need it, I’ve been doing fine with the air. For social media tools, I use Instagram and whatsup.

Social media creates pressure, especially for young people, and that annoys me. Young people identify too much with the information that comes through social media. Young people are also being bullied via social media, and that is a very unfortunate phenomenon. Social media also makes it easy for people to assume that you are always available, which bothers me from time to time. On the other hand, social media also makes communication particularly easy. I would say that social media is a double-edged sword.

What did I learn ?

The assignment allowed me to get acquainted with several e-Platforms that I was not familiar with. There are a huge number of e-Platforms and I had no idea they existed. I have indeed been educated enormously through this mission. I find some of the e-platforms superfluous for myself, I don’t need them, like snapchat, son younger than me. I don’t know anyone my age who uses snapchat. Making these pages was really educational because I have never done anything like this before. My son said to me that ” Mom, I made a page like that almost ten years ago when I was in primary school” I am even proud of myself. Now I know a new skill and it’s not too late now. I hope to do something like this in my own work someday.
