Digital tools in my current job

I work as an occupational health nurse. We provide health services for the workplaces in our region. One level of my work is to cooperate with entepreneurs or representatives of our customer companies. The other level is the work we do with the employees of those companies, for example health inspections and other appointments.

In my work I use the Acute patient information system in daily basis. In this system I have almost all the information I need about our customers (employees and employers). Contacts with our customers are mostly managed by phone, e-mail and Teams. In addition customers can contact us via electronic customer service.

We collect preliminary information for the health inspections and workplace visits with  electronic questionnaires. With some of our employers we have regular meetings, in which we discuss for example about the costs, sick leaves and effectiveness of the work that has been done. For those meetings we gather information from reporting systems to a powerpoint presentation.

Tools I might use at my daily work

Doodle

Doodle might be handy in organizing meetings with my customers. Sometimes it can be tricky to find a time that suites all. I have answered group polls made with Doodle, but have never made my own poll. There is also a Booking page in Doodle. We have an electric booking system and calendar in Acute patient information system, and we cannot change that for data security reasons. Doodles 1:1 meeting would also be a feature I wouldn’t probably use. For 1:1 meeting with colleagues online we often use Teams, and it has worked well. With patients we use phone or our electronic service, which has a required data security.

Twitter

Twitter might help staying up to date on what happens on my field of work. If I understood correctly, in Twitter you could follow the experts of your interest and their comments on current events. The problem, however, is that the length of the text is restricted, and you cannot get very deep in the topic on Twitter. I guess the tool is actually created for public online conversations

iAuditor

I Auditor is a platform for safety culture. This is the kind of platform I could easily recommend to my customers for improving their safety. We could also use this platform in my own workplace to find the most important safety issues to take care of. For most of my customers the platform should be in Finnish. The bigger companies usually already have a similar system in use. This kind of platform should be made suitable for smaller companies also.

Todoist

Todoist might help me to organize tasks that are not in my Acute calendar (patient information system). Sometimes when I feel a bit stressed and there are too many things to do at a same time, I make to do -lists on paper. For this purpose, I could use the Todoist. It should be as easily reached as a post-it note on my desk. Mostly I use the Acute calendar for all my tasks because it holds all my customer appointments, and I simply can not handle many collateral calendars or notes.

Mural

Mural seems like a useful tool for meetings, perhaps for brainstorming with your team? I think that we should use more this kind of platforms in most our bigger meetings so that all could participate more easily in the conversation. Organizing a meeting that uses this kind of a platform requires a lot of planning and studying the tool to make things fluent in the actual meeting.

Positives and negatives about social media

+ You can get in touch with people and have meeting regardless of your location.

+ You can share your thoughts with more people at a same time.

+ New innovative ways of using social media and participating (as shown in the social media platforms introduced in this assignment).

+ social media can be used in cost-effective advertising.

-/+ Using social media for commercial purposes requires expertise.

– The boundary between private and public can become blurred.

– On social media you can easily expose yourself to inappropriate comments.

– We do not often know well enough, how the information gathered in social media platform is used.

– I have also wondered, how can I know if the unpublic material they collect in social media is properly encrypted.

Elements of a successful use of digital application

I think nowadays the challenge is choosing the right platform for your purposes. You should take the time to get to know the possible applications available. Then most importantly, you should get to know the application you choose. The application itself should be easy to use and it should have a focus on data safety. I find it handy when you have many features in same application or you can expand the application if needed. It shou also be transparent how they use the information gathered. I also like to know all the facts about the application before I must register and give any of my personal information.

Self evaluation

It was interesting finding out about different social media platforms. To be honest, I had not even realized the amount of different kind of applications I could use at my work, and I believe we have only scratched the surface. Mostly I worry about the information safety of the applications.
