Digi society

I have worked at KYS in the Department of Clinical Physiology as a nurse since 1998 and for several years as an assistant ward nurse. In recent years, digitalization has increased and developed enormously in my work unit. When I started work, all the patient referrals came on paper, the medical records were on paper in the patient folder. The results of the examinations were dictated by the doctors and the department secretaries wrote them down and sent the statements on paper to the doctor. Appointments were up at the secretaries’ booklets.

Today, all of them are just memories. Appointments are made through the RIS appointment program. Patients’ medical reports are in electronic format and survey responses are sent electronically.

In the future, I believe that digitalisation will increase a lot in my work. The use of artificial intelligence is increasing, different information systems are working better with each other. The accuracy of various analysis programs is improved. Patients’ responsibility for monitoring their own health through digitalisation is growing.

The risks of an open digital society are possible and unfortunately increasing. We need to pay attention to risk prevention. In my own work, the general data protection regulation has been taken into account as soon as the regulation came into force. Patients must read, complete, and sign a consent form before we can begin conducting studies. This setting is useful, but it should be easier to do. As digitalization evolves, this becomes easier, so I believe and hope.

GDPR

In 2018, the general data protection regulation GDPR vas introduced in all EU countries, which improves and controls the processing of personal data. When the regulation came into force, information was provided to the staff at my workplace about what. it means to comply with the regulation in my daily work with them. In my daily life, GDPR has hardly affected me.

I left comments Tiina Meriranta and Laura Kouvalainen blogs.

Self-evaluation

I have never used WorldPress or written a blog. It was nice to read other people’s blogs. This course has provided new insights into digitalisation and itse potential. I should be bolder and more curious to take advantage of the opportunities offered by digitalisation.
