ePLATFORMS

I work as a nurse in the psychiatry acute work group. I use the patient information system and different parts of Microsoft Office every day. Teams is also used daily. Google is also used for various information searches. The use of social media is non-existent in my work. Even in my free time, I don’t share anything about my work on social media. However, I follow my workplace’s social media accounts to some extent.

Teams has been used more and more in my work in recent years. The Covid years brought with it Teams meetings and today Teams is used more. It is therefore possible to participate in various trainings and meetings either on-site or remotely, for example from your own office. I use YouTube to watch various educational videos. These include e.g. guide videos on mielenterveystalo.fi website.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence application based on a language model, i.e. it predicts which word will follow another. It produces text that looks intelligent. There are factual errors in it and the user must ultimately check the facts himself. It can be used, for example, to search for different perspectives. In the future, it can be helpful in quickly searching for information.

WhatsApp

I myself have been using WhatsApp for years. At work, you could make use of it by setting up your own circle in the work community, where you could report general issues related to work shifts or work. It would serve as a good information picture. Patient matters cannot be processed there due to data protection.

Youtube

I myself use YouTube quite a bit in my work. When we move to the new Laine Hospital, we will get better and bigger workspaces with big screens that can also be used together with patients. In this case, I can make better use of YouTube. Together with the patients, we can look at therapeutic issues together and discuss them.

Miro

Miro is a digital collaboration platform designed to facilitate remote and distributed team communication and project management. Miro could be a tool that I could imagine using to some extent in my work.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is an online community service and networking tool owned by Microsoft. Users can upload their resumes, hobbies and interests to the service and receive recommendations from former supervisors and colleagues and recommend others. There is a shortage of labor in many sectors, and this is also the case in the healthcare sector. It could be used to recruit new employees.

Social media

In social media, people often forget manners. You shouldn’t say anything you can’t say face to face. Social media has both advantages and disadvantages. Mental health problems among young people have increased a lot in recent years. Social media has been considered one of the reasons. I am convinced that social media, especially for some young people (including adults), does more harm than good. There are many types of social media and here I mainly mean applications like Instagram and Tiktok. Being on social media is often addictive and one cannot or cannot stay away from it for a long time. It can hinder concentration, increase anxiety and expose you to bullying. The amount of disinformation is also significant, and the young and the media-illiterate are exposed to false information too easily, in my opinion. Social media can also act as a bringer and facilitate communication and obtaining new information.

I myself lived in a time before mobile phones and social media, so I naturally have a different view of their advantages and disadvantages than the current Z generation. Of course, social media brings a lot of opportunities, not only threats. Social media can make everyday life easier and bring content to it. But social media is a good ring but a bad master.

Self evaluation

The assignment taught me to notice that there are many social media tools, and I didn’t even know half of the ones mentioned in the assignment. I could use different social media tools, maybe more in my work and personal life. Of course I know I can do without. Too many social media tools? That’s certainly the case. Social media and various digital tools make life easier and searching for information is fast. Is everything even too easy? You can order food quickly and directly to your home using the app. You don’t have to put as much effort into things as you used to. Is this ultimately just a good thing?
