KELA

Over the years I have used Kela’s services in a variety of ways. For example during my studies when I received study and housing support. I also applied for sickness allowance from Kela when I was on sick leave. When I was on parental leave Kela enabled me to get parental allowance and home care allowance. My most recent experience of Kela’s services is child benefit which will continue to be paid regularly every month for years to come.

I have had a European Health Insurance Card for years now. When the card expires a new card is sent home automatically. It’s great that Kela makes it possible to receive treatment in EU countries as well as in the UK (Kela 2023).

It is easy to log in to Omakanta with your own bank details. The website of Omakanta is simple and from there you can see yuor own health data, prescriptions and your child’s health information. I use Omakanta to view my medical records or lab results after a doctor’s appointment.

KEVA

I logged in with my banking credentials at Keva.fi. The site provides a comprehensive view of my pension information. I will be able to retire at the earliest at 67 years and 7 months. There was no possibility to calculate the pension for myself at 63 years old. The latest I can retire according to Keva’s website is at 70. I still have quite a few working years left which is good for requiring a decent pension.

AMAZON

I’ve never shopped on Amazon, but I’ve heard that it’s a reliable place to shop for a wide range of items. I took a closer look at Amazon and I could see that in my work I could use it, for example, to order prizes that we give out to young people at various events. After a little research, the site really looks reliable and offers a wide range of products at good prices, for example, you could order bottles of drinks at a lower price than you would get in Finland. The challenge in using the site would be that I don’t have a credit/debit card for my job, we do the necessary shopping in a local shop by invoice.

Despite the proliferation of digital services and the diversification of technical devices, not everyone today has a device that allows them to access the internet. This is visible in my own work. Not all young people have a smartphone or a computer and we youth workers lend them a computer or an iPad, for example, if necessary, to help them with their affairs. It is important that services are not only available digitally, but also face-to-face or on paper.

As digital services have become more widespread and different technical devices have become more diversified not everyone today has a device that allows them to access the internet. This is also visible in my own work. Not all young people have a smartphone or computer and we youth workers lend young people a computer or an iPad for example to help them with various tasks. It is important that services are available not only digitally but also face to face or on paper in the future, even though digital services are developing rapidly.
