My Learning Goals:

I have already done my two internship.I do not have any other work experience in the field, except for previous internships, that I already mentioned in my blog under the section of previous two internships.I am really interested to learn and become a good, competent registered nurse, so any additional know-how is needed,and I’m open to it. I really believe that this mental health and substance abuse nursing practice will bring me particularly good skills in future to practice as nurse.

Who I am and what I am as a student

I am 36-year-old,final year student nurse at Savonia University of Applied Sciences, Kuopio.
I’m an active developer myself, who leaves with enthusiasm and an open mind to all of the previously unknown.However, with this exercise, there are a few things that make me wonder, such as my reaction to any exciting situations, the encounter with a psychotic person, or work on medication. I would like to discuss these carefully with the instructor right from the start of my training.

How do I learn and what kind of learning style I have :

I work hard for my own learning. My learning style has become relatively familiar. I study theory, I structure things into different ”compartments”. My memory processes information into its own category and this makes it easier for me to remember things and to see the big picture. Practical skills are best learned by telling me what’s going on and why. In new situations for me, I find it useful to
first look, observe, and ask me important clarifying questions. I myself am active and I ask a lot.

My internship placements have been very different and I have not received the same development challenges from my mentors in each placements. However, I feel that every internship is a development challenge for me and that is why during my studies, I seek the most diverse and varied work environment for practical internships.
Level Of Competences :

Ethical competence:
I know general human rights, the nurse’s ethical guidelines, the confidentiality regulations, and the law on patient status and rights. At school, we’ve got some insight into the Mental Health Act, but I don’t know exactly what parts of the information I’m going to need in this practice. I believe my preceptor/mentor can tell me the things and other instructions etc. that will help me grow my skills.

Goals:

Work according to the principles of professional ethics and analyse the importance of attitudes and emotions in mental health and addiction care Assesses their personal competence in mental health and addiction care.

Education and teaching competence :

I am really interested to learn and become a good, competent registered nurse, so any additional know-how is needed,and I’m open to it. I really believe that this mental health and substance abuse nursing practice will bring me particularly good skills in future to practice as nurse.Basically my methode of learning is observation of patient and discussion about it with my tutor nurse.

Goal :

My goal is to learn more about the mehodes and skills which can i use in my practice in this mental health field.In this nursing care line we have lot of varaity of cases which will definatily improve my nusring skill and give me much more knowledge.

Evidence based practice AND decisions making competenc:

I have done my few practices in my degree programme.I am much familier with importance of evidence based practice.I will apply my previous knowledge in this area.I will utilises evidence based and experience based information in mental health and addiction care and will makes decisions at different stages of the mental health and addiction care process.

Goals :

How to research evidence based knowledge and other knowledge based on evidence and experience in mental health and addiction care and how to apply this .

Cultural Competences :

I already have much idea about the taking care the aspect of different cultures during taking care of patients.This is quite important for nurse to pay attention on this important point.I Knows how to encounter people from different cultures professionally.

Goals :

I really want to learn more about cultural sensitivity and its meaning for nursing care like for instance for patients´ families, using of substances, immigration, religional matters.

Clinical nursing competences :

I am quite familier with clinical skills.I have pretty much idea about how to demonstrates knowledge of safe use of the essential nursing interventions in mental health and addiction care and how to pay attention to implements safe medication practices in mental health and addiction care.
