Mid Term Evaluation

I was doubtful in starting of internship. It was because of different working setup. It was nor elderly kotisairaala but this place was normal assisted care residence. Clients health condition was not so bad. I t was confused about that how my mentor will teach me and guide me. But from the day first, I felt that she is really helpful and her way of describing things is really nice and clear .I learnt basic skills as i mentioned in my weekly reflection. During my mid term evaluation I had an opportunity to discuss in detail with tutor nurse and tutor teacher about my learning experience at my first internship for the period of first two weeks. I began with my interaction with patients here in Finland who are in area of home care and how it progressed over the coming days. In this practice nurse also has to communicate with clients guardians and family members I will try to improve my communication skills from that aspect too. My tutor nurse provided me with all possible opportunities to learn and experience nursing basic care without any restriction or any kind of work pressure. During the evaluation I told about my weak areas in practice for example communication and interaction with patients and how to document all the records in healthcare system. I know how to write the performed care but still it is little difficult for me because the language is Finnish.

I also observed and learnt that how this elderly care works in multidisciplinary way. A nurse has to manage all the other problems of clients also if they are not able to do by themselves..However during our meeting we discussed the ways to learn these things .I am sure i will be able to do all these important things and task until end of my internship. We all agreed to have my final evaluation on August because of summer break.

  1. Dear Saba,

This week we had mid term review.
You improved courage to communicate with residents in Finnish witch I am happy to see.
You have showed in English your knowledge about medicines and elderly care. You have also started to report in Finnish even it is not mandatory in your practice. You treat elderly’s with respect.
When I give feedback or teach you about something you listen and put it in practice.
This week we work a lot with medicines, we made changes to residents medications, update medicine lists, took blood sample, contact with the doctor and observe the effects of the medicine. That is the main task of the nurse (sairaanhoitaja) at our work unit. Work with other partners (doctors, family’s etc) and to have a bigger picture of residents care, condition and medication.
I am sure you will reach your goals by the end of the internship.

  2. Mid-internship evaluation was held on Tuesday 18.6. at 14:00 in Teams.

Ethics and professionality in nursing: We discussed the ethical values of nursing, and you described how they are reflected in your actions. You also received positive feedback from your supervisor about the warm and professional meeting of patients. You have completed the blog according to the instructions so far.

Customer-oriented approach and clinical skills: At your internship unit the residents only need a little help with basic care, and the nurse’s tasks focuses mainly on medication care. You have already been able to practice medication care. During the internship, you can further deepen your knowledge of medicines, for example, by reviewing patients medicine lists and evaluating their suitability for the elderly as well as possible side effects and interactions. It is also good to practice more nurse’s duties in your internship unit.

Competence based nursing and decision making: You have learned about the internship unit guidelines and instructions. You can practice documentation and reporting in English, so you can practice which things about customers are important to report. You don’t have to document or report in Finnish, but it’s always good to practice your Finnish language skills.

Quality and safety in social and health care services: In the mid-internship evaluation, you describe from many different perspectives how you can improve patient safety in your internship unit. For example, protection against infections, medication safety, fall prevention, safety bracelets, guidance and information.

Based on the mid-internship evaluation, the internship is going according to the goals.

You had agreed with the internship coordinator that you will complete 4 weeks of training now, weeks 22–25 and one week in August, week 32. You will do the final evaluation in August. Email me when the final evaluation is done.

    Have a nice summer! 🙂

    Best regards,
