Current job and use of different digital tools

In my current job, I manage a team of five people and our task is to maintain various information systems. We do not use any social media services or public cloud services. Various digital tools from Microsoft are used every day, such as Office365 products. Various phone applications such as instant messaging are also used in daily work.

Five new social media tools

Linkedln

We have a new job opening during the spring and we are currently planning the recruitment process. In the past, we have not used LinkedIn’s opportunity for recruitment. I will definitely bring this up as more work is done on the process. Finding new motivated employees is very difficult nowadays, because people change jobs quite often in our jobs. Linkedl could be used, for example, to map a person’s commitment to previous jobs.

Mobiilivarmenne

We currently use various means of strong identification. The mobile certificate is one means of strong identification and is widely used in banks, for example. However, in our tasks, publishing a new means of identification is not something very easy and quick to implement. This could come into question if the whole systems needs to be re-examined on a larger scale.

Youtube

Youtube is a new potential tool for us, which could be used to educate customers. We often have to prepare different training packages and instructions for our customers. Through Youtube, you could find general training videos that customers could use to learn the basics. It will be up to us to draw up more in-depth instructions, but Youtube videos could make the daily work a little easier.

Slack

Slack is a messaging app for business that connects people to the information they need. By bringing people together to work as one unified team, Slack transforms the way organizations communicate. In our job we could use Slack in small projects when we have to bring people together from various organizations. Every organization have their own systems and sometimes it is hard to find the right tools that everybody could use.

Todoist

Todoist seems like a really easy-to-use tool for project and daily work management. Todoist is completely new to me, and according to the introductory texts, a paid version is also available. In the business world, the paid version is usually a better option than the free version. With the free version, you usually have to agree to more special contract terms, where the service provider makes more use of the user’s data.

Social media – plata o plomo

Is a famous Pablo Escobar phrase and means silver or lead. Today, social media is held in high esteem around the world and is even used as a political tool. Depending on the questioner or the answerer, social media is like lead that sinks with it. Or like silver, which everyone craves for more.

After the elections held last Sunday, the media pointed out that the chairman of Kokoomus, which won the elections, only has less than 20,000 Instagram followers, while the outgoing prime minister has more than 1,000,000 followers. At what point has the number of Instagram followers become a merit for people working in government positions? The same phenomenon has happened before in the US presidential election, when Donald Trump was upset that he was kicked out of Twitter. When Trump eventually got the right to use Twitter back, they were upset again, because apparently he shouldn’t have been allowed back.

Self evaluation

I don’t know if it’s because of me or if the world is slowly sliding in an absolutely incomprehensible direction? Social media is gaining more and more power in the public conversation and the more followers you have, the bigger a celebrity you are, even though the attention should be focused on the actions you do.

However, I want to see a silver lining in the use of digital solutions in working life. For my part, I at least take care that my personality can be viewed based on my achievements in working life and not on the basis of what I write on social media.
