I work in the wellness area of Pirkanmaa as a ward manager. There are four units operating under my command. Three outpatient clinics and one ward. I have about 40 subordinates. My work includes a lot of human resource management issues, but also development tasks, financial management, and security issues. My work is diverse and responsible. Several digitalization-related development projects are underway in nursing. The polyclinics introduce a treatment discussion platform and work to ensure that customer contacts are transferred over the phone to digital platforms. Resource allocation is needed to balance the economy. Work peace is achieved when interruptions from work can be minimized through digital contact channels, for example.

In January 2024, administration entries made using the medanest mobile application and the medicinal storage system opal were introduced in the ward for medical treatment. In part, other departments have electronic medical storing in use. Change and development are now taking place in many areas – a few mentioned here.

The HR system in HR is used daily as is the shift planning program. A new software for monitoring working hours was introduced in January 2024. Nepton, which gradually spreads throughout the wellness area. The organization has its own intranet for employees. Instructions and bulletins are published there and everyone is obliged to read intranet news. As a foreperson, I link the teams’ discussion through the platform to the most important bulletins and news for the employees. Teams are issued on a daily basis.

The old M drive is being abandoned and all files are being transferred to their own onedrive drive and common instructions for teams on the teams platform. Email is important between transmitting and receiving information. Sometimes it feels like too much mail is coming in, the flood of information is so large that at times it feels inadequate and difficult when there is so much information available.

As new, employment contracts are signed electronically. I introduced a mobile certificate for my work just a few weeks ago. I sometimes use WhatsAPP to communicate with employees. However, with this, it must be remembered that it is not secure. No personal data or certificates are sent with WhatsAPP. Sick leave must be reported by calling and sick leave certificates sent by encrypted e-mail, unless the certificate can be brought in in person.

For job advertisement, the organization uses the Kuntarekry system. Through it, filling permits are applied for and choices made for activities and replacements. Short-term substitutes are also taken through the Kuntarekry software. It is important to keep your own social media and workplace issues separate. In my own social media, I don’t post anything related to work as an exception to the job postings I’ve shared.

I have an account on the former Twitter, the current X. I don’t post anything there. Linkedin is a good platform for work-related issues. But it’s still weird for me. I am slowly getting to know it and networking through it may be a good thing.

The wellness area’s communication unit manages the organization’s instagram, tiktok, etc. social media accounts. By requesting and undergoing an inspection, your own units can be marketed through this channel. For security reasons, you should not publish anything related to your work on your own. If you publish on a social media account, you must remember that you are the employer’s representative. Duty of loyalty and duty of service are binding on the employee regardless of the position.

Digitalization through studies ChatGPT has become familiar and will definitely be used in my work in the future. During my studies, I have experienced being “old” several times. Many things have come completely new to me and I have been absolutely amazed at how much digitalization can make your life easier. In the past, I have mainly experienced anxiety as I have again learned a new program without understanding its benefits. When you learn to think more broadly and learn more, you notice how new doors open. The challenge is when there are multiple programs and platforms. There are a lot of passwords and usernames. Each program works a little differently. These overlap in part and the simultaneous use of several programs is heavy. If all of these could be combined, life would be easy 😀
