DIGITAL TOOLS IN MY DAILY WORK LIFE

I work in information management in social welfare and health care. My work doesn’t include client and patient work. My work currently includes the planning ICMT (Information, Communications and Medical Technology) services of the reform of healthcare, social welfare and rescue services. In recent years, I have used a wide range of digital tools in my professional life, for example Microsoft’s O365 cloud ecosystem (Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, OneNote, Planner, Forms, Word, PowerPoint, Exel and so on). Through it we keep in host meeting and contact and working on different documents. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, we used applications. But the meetings took place before the corona face-to-face. Corona transferred us to work remotely. I have now worked remotely for over two years and my work relies completely in digital ways of communicating. Virtual teamwork, virtual meetings and use of platforms is here to stay.

We are using lots of different digital tools. Here is some of them below:

Surveys: Surveypal, E-Lomake, Mentimeter

Study: Moodle, Priima, Navisec, Kanta trainings and events

Social media: Instagram (Meta), Facebook (Meta), YouTube

Coordination of meetings: Tapaaminen.net, Doodle

Platform for workshop: Mural, Miro, Orchidea

The customer and patient data of social welfare and health care is confidential personal data. There are a lot of platforms that are not suitable for social care and health care. All the platforms aren’t secure in the processing of confidential personal data. We need to know and remember which platforms we can use in customer and patient work. And on which platforms we can communicate between professionals when we process confidential information. The above platforms aren´t suitable for processing confidential information.

Companies take advantage of social media. Private social and health care companies are also involved. What about public social welfare and health care, too a little bit. The picture shows statistics on corporate social media use for 2021 (Tilastokeskus 3.12.2021).

In this assignment I should chose five new digital tools to evaluate. I think that they could help me in my daily work. They are:

Signal

Signal is a platform centralized encrypted instant messaging. Users can make one-to-one and group voice and video calls and send one-to-one and group messages, which can include images, videos, files or voice notes. Signal makes it easy to communicate with professionals. The story goes that Signal doesn’t collect personal data like WhatsApp does.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is employment-oriented and business online service to professionals and companies. It´s works like the Facebook. The platform is primarily used for professional networking and career development. You can also publish job advertisements and write articles there.

Blogger

Blogger is a website where one or more people can produce content like posts, pictures, and videos. Texts can be read chronologically in addition to the new texts. The latest post is often the first to appear on the blog. The blog can be used to communicate and promote services.

TikTok

TikTok is an app used to share short from user videos. Videos durations from 15 seconds to ten minutes. TikTok has been one of the world’s most grown platforms in 2021. It has become increasingly popular also in Finland. We could use TikTok to market our services and workplaces for example. The public sector should make better use of social media than today.

Vimeo

Create videos in minutes, share your videos everywhere, build a company video hub, sell your videos online, host virtual events – this is how Vimeo advertises. Vimeo integrate seamlessly with Meta (Facebook, Instagram) and TikTok for example. This is a platform that we could be used in internal and external communication in the organization as well as in marketing.

PROS AND CONS OF SOCIAL MEDIA

Social media has changed the world and interaction between people. In addition, social media is effective marketing channel for businesses. It allows you to find a lot and quickly different of information. At its best, social media brings joy to people’s daily lives. Social media connecting people. It’s a channel for people, who needs a companion. It can make it easier to maintain relationships. There is also timely information on various issues, news, music and entertainment. Social media takes us around the world if they want to.

Along with the good comes the bad.  “Friends” on social media may not actually be real friends. Social Media is addicting and it´s full of mood-modifying experiences. While bullying is not a new concept, social media have brought bullying to a new level. The cyberbullying is ever-present threat. Social media is a good hired man, but a bad host.

SELF EVALUATION

This exercise was interesting. I use social media in my work and I know and have used many platforms earlier. But I have also learned from the new platforms. Like I have mentioned earlier, the public sector is still making too little use of social media or it doesn’t take all the benefits out of it. I work with different platforms for all day, so I like to do something other than be in social media at nightly.
