KELA

The Social Insurance Institution of Finland takes care of citizens’ social welfare and basic security. KELA provides financial support, for example for living, sickness, pensions, subsistence and unemployment. The activity also includes the active development of social security.

I myself receive assistance for medical reimbursements and in recent years I have also received paternity allowance. Our family receives child allowance and in recent years we have also received parental allowance.

I also got European health care card from KELA’s website.

MY KANTA PAGES

OmaKanta has been a familiar service for several years. My Kanta makes it easy to control recipes, for example. There user can see her/his own treatment history, as well as doctors’ records and statements. The will to treat is also visible in the position and it is possible to print the EU Corona certificate from there. Logging in takes place via a mobile key and authentication feels secure.

KEVA

According to the calculator of the Finnish public pension institution (Keva), my minimum retirement age is 67 years. At the age of 68, I would receive about 130 euros more in pension per month. The system considered the minimum retirement age to be 67, and could not calculate my pension if I left working life at 63.

DIGITAL SHOPS

I visited the e-commerce company ebay.com. The online store is also familiar to me and I have made several purchases there over the years. The most popular categories in online shopping are shoes, wristwatches, collectibles such as comics, and electronics such as phones and game consoles.

There are a huge number of products and categories. The country of origin of the deliveries and the country of manufacture of the goods is mostly China. The quality and materials may vary and sometimes the product is completely different from what the customer ordered. The differences in quality and materials can be considerable compared to concrete products bought in a store.

Delivery times can vary and the customer is always not informed enough about delivery-related issues or delays. Individuals also sell a huge amount of goods, new or used, on their ebay platform. The people are from all over the world and the online store shows percentages of their reliability based on previous sales.

Payment options are credit cards, Google Pay, or PayPal. Buying through PayPal and credit card is safe, and if the transaction fails, it’s easier to get the money back than if you paid directly to the seller.

THOMANN

Thomann is Europe’s largest online music store. When they entered the online market, this German giant left many music shops in trouble with their low prices. Today music shops have responded to Thomann’s prices and compete for the same customers at the same prices.

Delivery is free for the expensive products when ordered from Germany. As an operator, Thomann is very reliable and the product information in the online store is completely informative and contains many pictures and sound examples. I have often used Thomann’s online store to buy various instruments and music equipments.

DIGITAL GAP

The rapid digitization of society has made the lives of older people the most difficult. Acquiring information, social life, availability of services and doing things completely online has made many everyday things difficult.

People are forced to change their ways and adopt new ways to deal with. Banking services and company customer services in general are sectors that have changed a lot in the last two decades. Social media also affects communication and practical social relationships, how to stay relevant in today’s society.

Not all older people have had chance to get on board with this development, or they have not wanted to. Falling from that development makes everyday life difficult and taking care of certain things becomes practically impossible.

DIGITAL COMPETENCE TEST

According to the test, my digital skills are at level 5 (advanced). I am capable of many actions and technological problem-solving skills are also present.

There is also room for improvement. I don’t use social media myself, so all related areas need development and review. In addition, I have absolutely no knowledge of how to programming websites and applications.

SELF-EVALUATION

I am familiar with many of the services and shops that are the subject of review in the assignment. At different stages of my life, I have deal through Kela’s electronic services. My Kanta is the most familiar of all services. It is used often in matters related to myself and the child. Keva was unfamiliar. Mainly the accumulation of pension has only been monitored from the work pension extract that arrives at home.

Online stores are familiar and I use them quite often. When buying through Ebay, Amazon or Thomann, everything has always worked well for me. I have found the payment transaction safe and have used both PayPal and credit card payment.
