EVERYDAY AT WORK

I work in a small private occupational health service. We currently use the Dynamic Health healthcare program. It has its own internal message channel, which is actively used in customer matters in teamwork.
In addition, we use Outlook e-mail, Teams and the eKuopionTyöterveys electronic client program. The company has Facebook and its own website on the internet, which also has a mobile-certified appointment booking program for web appointment booking.

FUTURE  TOOLS AT MY WORKPLACE

WhatsApp
At the moment, we have on our own personal phones the work community WhatsApp. In the same way, work phones could also be used as a single communication channel. We have an all-user address book in our work email, but especially for some occupational health nurses, the work is quite mobile and not always in real time by e-mail, but work phones do go with them. In my own personal life, I have experienced WhatsApp as a very functional messaging channel, so why wouldn’t this work at work as well.

YouTube
YouTube is used to some extent in my own life. As far as I know, it is not used in the workplace at all, at least not generally. YouTube has both official and more unofficial material. You have to know how to extract real and reliable information from there. As my studies have progressed, I have started to use YouTube more than before. The teachers have also received link tips. One could think that this channel could be used more actively in basic work as well.

Instagram
The workplace has Facebook. Instagram has generally come alongside this. I don’t use either of them myself, but I have realized that you are a bit of the same type. Some people can only use Facebook, while others are supporters of Instagram. The future is probably for the company to have both Facebook and Instagram.

Linkedeln
In working life, Linkedeln has become an important networking tool of today. There, it is possible to describe one’s own skills and career, and to receive, for example, recommendations from superiors. However, Linkedeln is not a job search service, but through it it is possible to expand one’s own professional network and use it, for example, as part of an employee search. Of course, the turnover of employees at work is quite low, but I don’t think there is any harm in that even if the employees get visibility of their own skills through Linkedeln.

Mural
Mural is a virtual workspace that enables remote collaboration through a shared whiteboard. In an innovative work team, this could be a handy tool in a situation where some work remotely. I don’t know if it would actually work in our work community, but I would hope that we would be receptive to trying new tools.

What are the elements of successful use of a digital application?
Adopting digital applications requires consideration. You have to find an application that best meets your needs at any given time. In addition, the reliability of the application and generally safe use must be ensured. There are certainly programs available in the application world, the implementation of which enables, for example, criminal activity, for example program hacking.

SELF-REFLECTION
Exploring different applications was quite educational and interesting. Only a fraction of the application list was familiar. As I mentioned earlier, I’m a rather timid user of social software. I also experienced the same thoughts when researching different options. As a healthcare professional, personal data confidentiality and the possible improper use of applications always comes first. I think that there were a lot of applications in this list that are in active use both in Finland and worldwide without problems, but excessive caution in this field is not a disadvantage either.
