E-PLATFORMS

ePlatforms

I am currently working as a part-time resource teacher in a large local comprehensive school and my area of responsibility includes grades 1-4. -classes. The resource teacher goes around the classes and helps where help is needed and the students who need help. In practice, the resource teacher is a kind of “everywhere planer”. My two weekly working days also include a few hours as a regular classroom teacher, where I am responsible for teaching the lessons as one of the teachers.

In my job role, I don’t need digital tools very much. However, I use Otava’s electronic learning materials to plan lessons and the e-mail of city employees. From time to time I look for ideas for craft classes on the internet or Pinterest. I may also watch instructional videos related to crafts on You Tube. In my free time, I am the chairman of the winter swimming association and in this job I often use Microsoft Teams to hold remote meetings. We handle association affairs in the board’s whatsapp group, and we provide member information on the association’s website and Facebook group. In my studies, I have used the Moodle learning platform, the electronic communication tools Wilma and Peppi, and Zoom when distance education has been held. I occasionally use Instagram in my free time to share my own photos, and of course I use the electronic mobile certificate service, for example to pay bills.

In my daily work, I could use the following social media tools that are new to me:

Asana could be a good tool in my future work as a welfare coordinator or in other similar multi-professional cooperation, where working in different networks plays a big role. Asana is a collaborative project management software that looks like a handy and powerful software for teamwork. With the help of the application, you can make for example different action and project plans, and you can work in several teams at the same time. Project monitoring and reporting can be done in one place. Mural is another tool of the same type as Asana, and the “brainstorming” feature could be particularly useful in my future work, which would be a good way to do group work online.

Slack, which gathers all work communication in one place, could also be useful in my work. According to its website, Slack invests in security features and information security.

Todoist seems like a very suitable tool for me, for which all the things to be taken care of and remembered must be precisely at the top. It is a task management and to-do list application and is especially suitable for those who have a lot of things to take care of on a daily basis.

Tumblr seems similar to Instagram, which I could take advantage of by sharing various updates related to my work with pictures. I just haven’t heard of this application before, so it might be very unfamiliar to many people and will it reach people? Maybe Instagram would work better because it is familiar to many people.

I could learn to use Skype video calls in my free time to communicate with our son, who is already an adult and lives far away. Eye contact would bring the other closer.

The good aspects of using social media are the possibility of sharing things, keeping up with the times and the possibility of being present. Disadvantages can be the emergence of addiction to the constant use of social media, possible data security risks and dangers of facing for example bullying and discrimination due to exposure.

Self-assessment

This assignment was interesting. While researching different applications and tools, I learned a lot of new things. The number of tools and applications is certainly much larger than what was mentioned in the list, and there are applications specific to different fields. For example, my husband uses Betsala in his work for travel and expense invoices and Jamix and Arom for controlling food production.
