ePLATFORMS

Get ready for platform.

As an debuty ward steward I use in my daily work Words application to make and/or uppdate old documents for the use of our radiology department. With Words and our hospital districts ready templates as a base in several documents. With those all our documentation can be easily red, because the templates are the same in all our hospital districts documentation. Email’s is also well used in my work as it’s the most used commucation tool right after verbal communication in our department of radiology. Email’s can be tricky to use, because you may get misunderstood if you don’t open up to the smallest detail what you are trying to say. If you misuse a sentence someone can get it all wrong anf think that you mena something totally else that you were trying to say. It’s also interesting to see that sometimes lets say, the ones with more miles in their meter, may not understand the amount of people is involved in an email list. The one email you answer can be grouped and you think that there is only for example 5 receiver for that email, but in faact there are tens, even hundreds of people behind that one email answer you send, and if you there say something you are not supposed to say anyone else than to that one person who sent you the email, well you can get the picture. Excel is also a very important tool in my work to utilize. For employee listing documentation, radiology departments machine documentation, patient flow documentation in an imaging modality, expences to profit cross referencing and sorting all of the previous ones. Excel, the one application I want t learn to use effeiciently.

Open Badges

Open badges reminded me of Savonia’s Open Badges type digi-key learning mark which included a pattern of questions and tests about your digi knowledge and know how’s of digital environment. After you answered to all questions and tests you got this digital digi-key mark.

As a tool in my line of work I can see this as a better way of managing staffs knowledge base as a whole. Firstly it’s in digital format and can be accessed and shared from any given time from a computer with an internet access. We do have our staffs educations in digital form, but compared to Open Badges it’s a bit hard to obtain. I mean the data of educations one person has done or a group of professionals has done lets say in this year. Open Badges sounds more flexiple from this point of view. It also would be easier to monitor staffs education curve and offer education options to a person who hasn’t studied anything in a period of time.

What isn’t so good in this type of Open Badge format. I cannot think anything else than the fact that in our staff there is a age gap apaproximetely between 25years to 63years. Using our own imaging applications at work works well. But I would say that not everyone from the older employees are so digi oriented and that could make it hard to use, share and navigate Open Badges type application.

Miro

This type of presentation of information and possibilities to interactive working I want to implement to our department. Our departments workstations and imaging machines are mostly separeted. From this point of view I can see Miro and it’s products as whiteboard and mindmap templates usefull for our department. It could be used on friday morning department meetings as a base of information, it could help our fepartments cohorsion, when everyone from our department had an opportunity to include statements and questions even if they couldn’t be in person in weekly meeting. When typing this blog entry it came to my mind to try this type of meeting, maybe first use Teams.

Our line of work and the work load is determined by the patient flow and how physicians order imaging from the patients. Previously mentioned weekly meeting and participation from an imaging workstation where the patient flow might be small or big. It could make it hard to be part in this type of interactive meeting from that kind of workstation. For example, you comment something and after that comment an imaging referrala comes in and you need to move from the interactive meeting to prepare the referred customer. You might have had a good points to subject that was dicussed, but know you just got to put one comment and from that you might get misunderstood.

Mobiilivarmenne

Mobiilivarmenne isn’t a new thing to me, but I think it could be utilized more in healthcare and hospitals. In our department it could be used by our customers who come to imaging to self sign up. We do have self registration machines. But with mobiilivarmenne our department wouldn’t need to pay for the self registration machines maintanence. For this to work it would need that everyone, even the elderly customers, would need to have a smartphone. This said it could be hard at this exact time, but what about in the future? Could it be possible to impelement something like this to our healthcare system or in certain hospitals or healthcenters – interesting.

Negative aspect is obvious, as I already said it in the earlier paragraph. As we are living in digitalized world, you cannot assume that everyone has the opportunity to firstly buy a smartphone or know how to use one. If these were met, the next thing is internet access, not all points in the world has internet access.

Pinterest

This is an interesting platform where you can find something you didn’t know you needed to know or something you need. The platfor gives you suggestions from a keyword you paste and gives more suggestions from just clicking images the search engine finds for you.

I could see Pinterest as a place where radiographers could post their imaging devices optional accessories, their imaging rooms templates, working stations accessories or x-ray imaging postioning questions.

Pinterest could be used as described but data safety would need to be evaluated before posting anything on the platform. It would be difficult to maintain a certain quality on the postings as there are variables in smartphones, with which the photos would be taken, and all the different practices in different departments and employers with patient positioning.

LinkedIn

I have heard of this site and I think it’s widely used by people with higher than Bachelors degree.

I could see this networking site used in healthcare and with technology oriented radiographers. I could utilize LinkedIn to contact and summon radiofraphers to work near our department, if there were a shortage og radiographers. I could see from the registered radiographers profile which imaging modality competencys is available on different radiographers. There could also be an option for the radiographer to contact or apply to headnurses or debuty headnurses on radiology departments. From there they could start a live meeting and agree or disagree of a work period in a certain department. There could be included an option to agree on the given period of time work, hourly rate and what else is needed to be agreed.

It could be a perfect tool for healthcare departments. There is only a few but for this to work. Not everyone is willing to register on this type of platform. So firstly there would need to happen a conversion in peoples minds to register them selfs to a platform like Pinterest. If there would a considerable pool of radiogarphers that would be good. But then comes next but, everyone one of those radiographers had to keep their profile up to date, so there would be no pointless contacts from head -or debuty head nurses, for example there would be a need of radiographer with competence of magnetic resonance. Lets say there would be one available, but this particular radiographer hans’t done magnetic resonance imaging in 20years. This particular radiographers profile was last updated, when looking only imaging modality, when the radiographer started and worked only in magnetic resonance imaging. The radiographer has uppdated LinkedIn profile, but not the modality. So in this case the head -or debuty nurse would have contacted the radiographer, but there would be no use of the radiographer, because magnetic resonance imaging has taken such big leaps that the competence there has been isn’t valid on this day.

Self evaluation

Interesting and thought-provoking section. There is applications and platforms to utilize in healthcare and in radiology departments. Thinking of employees and how they meet jobs in the future. I could say from my point of view that there is happening a transition to digitalized environment. Digital environment in where the employee and employer meet in much faster pace than it’s used at the moment. Digital platforms is something I would like to bring to our department, maybe it includes virtual meetings with other departments, with much more interactive touch than they are at the moment. Future is coming with digi, and I’am keen on getting involved with all that is coming towards us in the near future.
