Digital Services in Denmark – Social & Healthcare

There’re two digital services for healthcare services in Denmark. A person must have Danish SSN and Nem ID or Mit ID (for of digital authentication, similar bank auth in Finland) to access the services.

Min Læge (My Doctor) is a mobile app that enables people to get in touch with their doctor and the clinic, manage appointments, ask for digital consultation and access vaccinations, referrals, diagnoses and course plans.

However, the app only enables communication to one’s home clinic, for example, it is not possible to book an appointment with a specialist here. Also, you wouldn’t find your Coronapas in the app, although vaccination information is available here.

The second digital service in the Danish healthcare system is MinSundhed (My Health) which is accessible via sundhed.dk or as a mobile app. In MinSundhed, you get an easy overview and easy access to the healthcare system and your health information. It also provides access to information the help to interpret laboratory test results, although the doctor is always responsible to discuss them with their patients. Here, you can also book appointments with specialists outside of your own clinic, and access Coronapas.

In addition to the patient side, MinSundhed serves also as a license and practice management portal for medical professionals.

The Danish pension system is divided into three different pension types: statutory pensions, labor market pensions (or occupational pensions) and individual pensions. That means you get pensions from several places once in retirement.

If you are an employee, your employer usually also ensures that some of your salary is paid into a pension savings. And you have the option of setting up an individual pension scheme entirely yourself.

The statutory pensions are provided by the public sector. Occupational pensions are the pensions that are established as part of your employment relationship, you need to negotiate with your employer before entering into employment contract what percentage of your gross salary they will contribute towards your pension. The individual pension is set up entirely by yourself through a pension company or a bank, usually your employer has a deal with a pension fund. You can select another pension fund to make the individual contribution into but it makes life easier to have the occupational and individual funds under the same umbrella.

The Danish pension system is very hard to navigate and understand for a newcomer. 🤯 On top of that, services are solely offered in Danish language which is source of major discomfort, at least for me, because the translations cannot always be trusted.

Online Shopping

I have somewhat a social anxiety when it comes to shopping, especially clothes. That’s why online shopping is excellent substitute for uncomfortable shopping experience, crowds, lines, correct size nowhere to be found, dusty dressing rooms, you name it.

Zalando, Boozt.com and Amazon are always on top of my mind when looking for anything. As I’ve been returning customer for years, I notice significant development in making sure you find the products and choose the correct size. Especially in online retail, up to 30% of purchased goods gets returned, driving negative impact on the environment.

There’s been a notable outburst in use of AI to recommend and help customers select products based on their interests and preferences derived from accumulated data.

The downfall of online shopping is for the most delivery service companies. In Denmark, Postnord is national postal service and it works quite well – shipments are forwarded promptly, making of my most packages arriving timely. I have lot of experience with Postnord from Finland and it’s quite the opposite.

Digital Service at My Workplace

Resource Guru is our resource planning and scheduling app. In enterprise size of consulting agency with resources and expertise scattered all over the world, it is essential we’re able to stay updated about our colleagues’ time availability. That way we can offer them to collaborate on a project when looking for a superstar with certain profile and skills. ⭐️

Digitalization & Digital Gap

The fast progress of digitalization serves to those with access to technology, and have the competences to adapt to changes. In Denmark, the biggest digital gap can be found amongst the elderly. This is a serious problem when it comes to services that undergone such level of digitalization that they are no longer available otherwise. For example banks closing branches.

Below, you can see the results of my digital competence test.

We also cannot forget a large percentage of the world’s population doesn’t have any digital access whatsoever or very limited. That creates a gap in information sharing and has impact on education.

Self-evaluation

My professional life is build around digital. That’s where I also gained the best understanding of what it takes to develop, manage and maintain digital service solutions.

I learnt more about the pension schemes in Denmark, although I had to investigate them excessively in the beginning of the year while relocating.

The topic of digital gap is also very interesting for me and here I read about about different perspectives. In marketing, we work with demographical segmentation to identify target groups that aren’t digitally proficient.
