DIGI CITIZEN

Kela is an independent institution under public law, which administers basic security for people living in Finland in various life situations. For example, Kela provides many benefits for families with children. Kela pays child benefit for each child who is permanently resident in Finland. The payment continues until the end of the month when the child is 17 years old. Kela has offered me help in many different life situations such as when I was studying and taking care of children at home. When I worked a maximum of 30 hours a week to take care of the children, I received, for example, a partial care allowance from Kela.

OmaKanta – MyKanta- is a digital service for citizens where you can view your own health data. I can log in to OmaKanta using my online banking credentials. In MyKanta I can, for example, check the results of laboratory tests, read treatment-related records and view prescriptions and make request a prescription renewal.

Keva is Finland’s largest pension institution and it manages, for example, the pensions of employees of the new welfare service municipalities. The task of the study course included lookin at Keva’s website how much pension I will get if I retire at 63 years or 68 years. I logged into the digital service with my bank credentials and checked my own information. My lowest retirement age is 66 years and 6 months. If I continue working until I’m 68, the amount of the pension will increase by around 200€/month. I hadn’t previously checked my own retirement age or my possible pension.

I have often used the Booking.com and Trivago sites, for example, when looking for accommodation during my trip. I think the price comparison has been useful and I have been satisfied with the services of the sites. I would believe that you can find products cheaper in online stores than in brick-and-mortar stores. Despite this, I rarely buy clothes for myself from online stores because I want to fit clothes before making a purchase decision.

I use Duodecim’s Terveysportti – health library – website every week in my work as a laboratory nurse. Terveysportti provides basic information on medical conditions and diseases and how to get treatment and care. For example, I use the online service when I check the information on the active ingredient of the medicine and what kind of possible side effects the medicine can cause.

I think the tasks were well planned and they made me think about my own use of digital services. I found myself using digital services every day both at work and at home. I realized that not everyone has these digital skills required nowadays, so they can even be left without necessary services.
