PLATFORMS

I’m working as a Biomedical Laboratory Scientist in Sairaala Nova, Middle-Finland welfare district. I use many digital tools in my work every day: Lifecare – a patient information system to verify agreed examinations; RIS – Imaging Software Services for managing and storing medical data; Outlook – an e-mail program for daily communication; Microsoft Excel – a program for spreadsheets that is used, for example, in planning employee job placements; Microsoft Word – a program for word processing that is used, for example, to create research instructions; Teams – a platform for collaboration and communication.

A new employee is being sought for my workplace and I have also shared the job advertisement on Facebook. I hope this way the job advertisement will reach more applicants. A presentation of our work unit has also been published on the hospital’s Instagram site. In the future, I plan to try Todoist application for organizing and planning my own work. When planning team meetings, for example Doodle would certainly be worth trying. Mural could also be useful in developing team cooperation.

I think, it was very interesting to get to know different platforms. Learning and utilizing new digital applications in my own work will hopefully help reduce my own work stress. It is worth noting that digital platforms enable virtual meetings with other units. In this way, educations can be held without the participants having to travel. There are many opportunities in the development of digitalization, but information security risks must always be taken into account.
