In my current job as a junior qa-engineer I use multiple social media platforms to communicate with colleagues efficiently. These platforms include WhatsApp, You Tube, Slack, LinkedIn and Teams.

Teams is my main application. Meetings are set up in teams and they show up on my calendar, this makes easy to follow what meetings I need to be in. Also teams includes groups, and boy do we have many. Every team has their own cannel, marketing, support to name a few. In those channels we trade info with our and other teams about work and important milestones.

WhatsApp is more for the relaxed talk, also some work related stuff as many of us do not have email or teams set up for the home environment. Some important work related, like water cut-off and renovation info is messaged in WhatsApp.

Slack is for the work and as it has many groups as well, ranging from technical assistance to hobbies. We can ask help form other colleagues directly or can ask in groups that are specialized in the area. And in our hobby and leisure groups we discuss movies, possible reservations regarding sport places and things alike.

I use You Tube weekly to go through tutorials on automation, git, programming languages  and tips and tutorials. It is a great platform to find solutions on many of my problems, and I usually first check it to find a way, if that does not work, I will google the problem and if that does not go well I will ask on Slack or Teams for the answer.

In LinkedIn I connect and network with different professionals to get the latest updates on the field. Mostly I use the platform to follow the progress of my friends in their own fields J I also scout for new possible employees to get the recruitment bonus.

Platforms that i could use in my current work

For the five new ones that I could use in my line of work I chose Mobiilivarmenne, Miro, Instagram, Twitter and Mural

Mobiilivarmenne is a secure way to log in services. In the modern day, security is the key and stolen passwords are leaked to internet almost monthly. Our company could use mobiilivarmenne to make our sign ins more secure, and reduce the risk of third party accessing our data. The harm that cyber attacks are not only that of lost secret information but also it harms the brand.

Instagram is a major social media platform where users share their images and thoughts. Many of my friends are on that platform, I myself have had no time or interest to set up an account so far, tough the idea has been on my mind many times. I could use it to post about my work and attract more interested personnel to work in our company. I could post how my day goes and inform the progress we are making to also attract possible clients and create more exposure.

Miro is a collaborative application where users can interact with the display. This can be extremely useful in creating UX (user experience design) because it allows people to share their vision fast.

Twitter is basically the same as Instagram, however as it has the advantage to report faster. This speed can be useful to scan for universal issues, vulnerabilities and solutions as messaging is faster paced. Mural has the same advantage as Miro, and can be used to same extent to bring ideas together. It is easier to show your idea than painting a picture with words

Brief reflection

This assignment reminded me how many platforms are used in our daily lives. I find learning new platforms easy, however not all people are as interested in learning new ways top do things and these social media platforms can cause irritation and stress to employees reluctant to learn more. Also if too many platforms are in use, you simply can’t master them all. More than once I have heard “why is this  program working” in my remote meetings followed by a rant. Social media tools can be effective, but one must remember not to rely too much on applications, otherwise for example blackouts can halt all operations.
