KELA, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland

Kela is paying child support until our children turn 17 years old. Also Kela is covering part of medicines after yearly 50€ self risk. Standard cover of medicines is 40% until yearly cap of 592.16€ is reached and after that medicine cost is 2.5€ per purchase. Mu husband is paying health care fee for higher education students. I do not have to pay this since I’m studying at open university of applied science. I already have in use European health care card, which is good to have if having holiday in Europe.

OmaKanta

After using health care services I always check my data from Kanta service. I´m also using this to send my recipes for renewal. I´m using Mobiilivarmenne to log into Kanta services since it is easy and fast. I´m also guiding my customer to using Kanta service.

Keva

I did check my pension data from my pension company. I can retire when I’m 67 years and 2 moths old and goal is to work until 69 years and 9months. If I can make it until that pension start goal age while working then I will get 400€ more pension per month.

Amazon

I live in countryside so using webshops is quite common. It is much easier and faster to order things online. Our family is using many times Amazon.de webshop, since they offer fast delivery, decent pricing and great customer service.

Vivago mobile

At work I have an app on the work phone which is telling me when customer is pressing the alarm button. App is also informing me about change is customers activity. Using app provided information I can prioritize my tasks. For example I can get info is customer has decided to move around and depending on customer i can go check if assistance is needed. Accumulated data about customer can also be used when evaluating customer need for medication.

Digital Competence Test

I did take the test at address: The Digital Competence Wheel (digital-competence.eu)

Below is picture of my results

Digital services are transforming all the time. Some people are outside of the services and not using the digital channels. Many different reasons are causing people not to take new services into use. For using digital services one needs to have device, internet connection and knowhow to use the systems. So it is very important that alternative methods remains in use to connect to these people.

During corona pandemic is was necessary to have Covid pass to enter restaurant. Without smart phone it is really difficult to show this pass, so it was also possible to get paper version from healtcare unit.

Self-evaluation

Many of the public sector digital services are familiar to me beforehand. It is interesting to see how much digitalization is helping us everyday. Nearest Kela office is 30 kilometers away is only open 3 hours a day. It is much easier to care of contacting Kela services using digital methods when I have the time to do it. Law about digital services availability has in my opinion made many digital services availability better. Living as an digital citizen demands many kind of knowledge and you need to constantly update your skills to keep up with modern day. One of the reasons why I´m studying digitalsation is that I want to know about all of the possibilities that are available.

  1. Your blog post is especially interesting, as you include supporting apps around the social insurance system as well as the app you use in your job. How digital platforms and analytics follow us not only as consumers but as employees and when providing services to others shows a clearer and more complete picture of what we mean when we talk about digitalization.

Your reflection on the Digital Competence Wheel, especially your point about constant transformation of the digital world drives my awareness of learning as a life-long constant even further. Here my concerns about social cohesion versus digital gap meet with my hopes for an education-based society without borders.

Ivago mobile app was new to me. It is great that you can use app in your work and use apps information to do your job. It would be interesting to investigate how it uses data and how you can use it during a workday. It would be nice to know more how GDPR has been taken into apps data.
