My work..

I work as a nurse in substance abuse services. I meet patient who has addiction condition. My job description includes various psychosocial discussions and dispensing medicines. The work is very fast-paced, and I meet several patients a day. In addition, I meet the patient’s close persons and visit cooperation meetings. Patient meeting is an important role my work. The work is very practical, so we still have use little of digital tools.

In our unit, we have an electronic patient information system through which we can see the patient’s data quickly. We’ll log the visits into the system. When I am dispensing medicines, it is important that the information is up to date, but unfortunately the systems do not support this yet. The patient information system provides information on the patient’s medication and treatment plan, which is important for our work.

We have the Teams- app, through which we visit collaborative meetings and talk to workmates. I think we could use the app even more widely in the future. A year ago, we have moved from Skype to the Teams-app. The app requires learning so that it can be utilized in the work, but it has made a good impression.

Over past two years, remote doctor appointments have increased in our work unit. Remote doctor services are provided through every Teams-app or Zoom-app. It has increased the availability of medical services and made our work easier. We have the times from patient’s faster than without remote doctor services.

We have electronic working time tracking that can be implemented both with a computer program or through an app that is downloaded in a smartphone. The program allows you to track your own working time quickly and easily. The programmed gives an overall opinion of working time and its implementation. In addition, we have an electronic work planning programmed in the organization that makes shift planning easier to manage. The stamping of electronic time tracking is transferred directly to the shift planning programmed, which speeds up the processing of actual lists.

In my work, I use Microsoft Office tools, mainly Word, but also Excel sometimes. In addition, we use Powerpoint if we need to present something visually. These tools have been in use a long time and they are already familiar to everyone.

Social media

There is good and bad in the use of social media. It’s easy to keep in touch with friends, including acquaintances you rarely see in through social media. Networking through social media is also quick and easy. In addition, social media provides easy visibility for various events and services, for example. In my free time, I actively use Facebook and Instagram. I feel that I have received a lot of information in groups about matters of interest to me.

When using social media, you must be careful. Privacy must always be considered. It is a good idea to keep your personal information for yourself and not to share too much of your personal information. Data can be fished out and goodwill people pass on their knowledge. When using social media, we must remember the criticism, because not everyone is what it seems or is implied. It’s good to know that when you post something on social media, the thing you posted, or the image may have spread around the world in an instant. It is important to maintain IT- skills and be aware of the risks.

In social media, it’s important to be benevolent towards others. Nothing that cannot be said face-to-face should not be said on social media either. Elements of successful use include sufficient knowledge and skills for the application you are using. There must also be motivation to use different digital applications. You need to be interested in new digital things that you can take advantage of in your work.

Five new social media tools for my work

Instagram

Our unit could have its own Instagram account where we could share general information related to our work. There could be notifications of various events as the activities of the partners. This could be a viable channel and reach many customers.

LinkedIn

Everyone in the unit working would do have their own LinkedIn pages. On LinkedIn, everyone could add their own information, educations, and other work-related things. It can also be used to connect with others who may be doing the same job. LinkedIn is also useful for your career. I’ve been thinking about joining LinkedIn, and maybe now that I’ve gotten to know it in more detail, I’ll do it.

Facebook

Nowadays, a lot of people use Facebook. We could set up our own pages for our unit. In there we could easily find contact information and instructions for contacting us. I think it would reach a lot of people. In addition, we could communicate through it about local events and starting groups. We could also advertise the partners’ activities and various services to our customers.

Mobile certificate

In the future, our service may require strong identification as technology brings new operating models to our unit, examples as pharmaceutical robots. This will be difficult for some customers if a mobile certificate is not available.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp could be targeted on a group by group basis. If we have a schedule change, we could inform our customers through this. All customers do not have a phone that makes it difficult to use this app. However, it could be suitable for a group of customers and be very functional. Most customers and employees have the WhatsApp-app enabled, so the skills to use the app are good. We could use Whatsapp to communicate between employees and create unit specific groups.

Self evaluation

I became acquainted with new social media tools in this mission. I also learned to assess what would be the right method for one’s own work. I found myself thinking about the safety of many applications for work. I use many apps myself in my spare time, but they may not be suitable for professional use.  I have noticed that many services for young people prefer Instagram and Facebook and I think it makes it easy to reach young customers. Digital applications are constantly increasing in my work. I’m excited and interested to hear more about new apps and what they’ll bring to my work in the future.

I think that it interesting to do a blog. It’s nice to read other people’s blogs and thoughts about the topic. I’ve learned how to use a blog template that’s been difficult at first. I learned how to add images that make the blog attractive and engaging. My English language skills remind me of little by little, but professional vocabulary is a challenge.
