DIGI SOCIETY

The Social Insurance Institution of Finland

The Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela) is an institute which takes care of social security in Finland. During my life I have used financial support for student, health care and family support like maternity package, maternity support and child benefit. I have a right to lower special rate of reimbursement for medicine expenses because I have a Mixed Connective Tissue Disease (MCTD).  For my children I use usually private doctors and Kela pays part of the costs. Kela´s part is really low, so it is good to have an insurance for the children. I already have a European health care card so I didn´t order it for this task.

In my work I use Kela services as an employer to apply for the sick leave allowance and lately also infectious disease allowance for our staff.

Health care data provided by OmaKanta

I use OmaKanta almost every week so I find it easy to access it. My older child is already teenager so I find it odd that I can´t see her health issues in OmaKanta even though I still am responsible of her wellbeing. For getting access to her health care data in OmaKanta, we got her bank identifiers and she knows when we look at her health care data with those. For my and my toddlers health care data in OmaKanta, I use mobile ID.

My estimated pension

Keva doesn´t provide me any information about my pension because I work in a private organization and our pension insurance company is Elo. From Elo´s web service I got an information about my estimated pension.

Zalando

I use Zalando every now and then to order clothes for me and my family. I don´t think there is anything special in the prizes or the selection, but it is just easy way of browse clothes. Going to the local shops is fun sometimes but online shops are much easier in my busy life with work, studies, and family. I don’t like to go shopping with my toddler and in online stores I can browse the products, when he sleeps. I think Zalando is reliable, and I have good experience about it.

Muksunetti and Edlevo

On my own field we have a few applications for the co-operation with families. In my work place we don’t use those yet, because there isn´t that good applications for the private early years education. As a customer I use Muksunetti, where I can find my child´s early years education and care plan and Edlevo where we give his daycare times and holidays to the city. I think those would be good applications and everyone would benefit of using them but at the moment the problem is that the City of Kuopio has only taken a part of the applications in use. For example, in Edlevo we can see how many hours we have booked daycare for our son but it doesn’t notify if the hours goes over our agreement. Muksunetti would be good to connect to the health care so that our nurse in neuvola would see the notes about our son.

Digitalization and digital gap

There are still people who don’t use virtual services. Most of them are aged people who just don’t have the equipment and knowledge to use it. I think there is a big risk to become marginalized from the services. For example banks are open for personal services for just few hours a week and if someone can´t get to the office at that time, the only way to get service is digital platform. The same is in many other services as well. Who will help aging people to get service in this world?

I commented on these posts:

Digital Competence Test

I did the Digital Competence test and got the best score in the information and safety areas. The lowest was production and it didn´t surprise me at all. I should learn to be more productive with the digital solutions. Communication score was close to the information and safety areas. My total result was level 4 (intermediate) which means that I am able to perform well-defined tasks independently and solve non-routine problems on my own. I thinks that describes me well.

Self-reflection

This part of the course was really interesting. In the beginning it looked really easy and already familiar to me because I use Kela services and OmaKanta in almost daily bases. Still I went deeper on the services of those institutions and also pension insurance company and got a lot of new useful information.

Digital Competence Test was really interesting to do and it made me think of my future areas of development considering digital skills. Now I have to say thank you for getting me to know the test.
