In the field of my expertise

My first digital pc game was Donald Duck pc game where Donald jumped over obstacles and dodged dangers. The era of PCs has shifted to mobile devices and cloud services. Portable computers and smartphones has become important devices. I have worked in the library and now I work in the office as a data protect officer. I´m library patron because reading is my hobby. Libraries do a lot of digital work, when material is cataloged in databases. Content description can be done automatically using an artificial intelligence program called Annif or semi-automatical program FintoAI. Artificial intelligence is trained in different ways to use words for content. I have not used this AI but it seems very interesting.

Online libraries operate on mobile devices that require a user ID, which we are used to call a library card. When you borrow an e-book, the machine automatically takes care of the return and you don’t have to worry about it. Libraries also have self-service opening hours, when you can visit the library at your desired time. The loan and return machines are part of automation because they help to locate the materials. As a new innovation in the library, the robots transport books to the right shelves or help customers locate material.

At work, I can save my important files in the cloud service, and they are always available. I don´t need any memory stick that I can lose. In my spare time, I travel a lot and often buy train tickets with an online application. A new service has been added to the VR application, that you can activate the e-ticket yourself, which means that there is no need for an inspection. With the help of digitization, I can handle important everyday tasks, e.g. banking and online shopping can be done by phone. The development of devices and software moves forward quickly, but there is a lot to consider in terms of information security.

The risks of open digital society

When I use online store, the program´s algorithms collect my data. It is said that legislation is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to personal data protection. The GDPR regulation is valid in Europe, but the largest program services are from the USA or elsewhere. Once you save some information about yourself or old photos online e.g. in Irc Gallery, it’s hard to get them out. Although the data protection regulation ensures that your data is processed transparently and objectively, you cannot know where the data is transferred. There may be several copies of your information, or the service has agreed that your photos will become the property of the service. Artificial intelligence is a new digital world in which information security has not yet been experienced. Your open files can be material for AI. People’s information can be used for automatic decision-making without informing the person. Programs may collect biometric or other sensitive information to profile people.

ChatGPT

I don’t have much experience with AI. I asked ChatGPT if studying as an adult is worth it? The answer was very long and multifaceted. Studying as an adult can be very profitable, and it has many benefits, depending on your goals and life situation. Chat GPT gave five reasons why adult studies are worthwhile. In addition to the motivational speech, it gave tips on the life situation and finances, which should still be taken into account. I asked what fields should be studied. It answered well that, in addition to the labor market, you should think about your own motivation and interests. It also asked me what field I would like more information on. I asked what it means in the fields of sustainable development. The answer was a wide range of different fields and jobs. it answered broadly what sustainable development innovation means, i.e. it found a lot of material for the answer. In addition, it made a motivation proposal for why to study sustainable development. ChatGPT also propose, what else could I ask about it. It remembers the previous questions when I change the subject. Searching for information is easy and sometimes there are quite long answers. It’s strange to use question sentences when I’m used to search words. There are no sources from where these answers were collected.

Self evaluation
The digital world has changed and will change in the future. Often, applications appear that I didn’t know I needed, but they make life easier. Almost everywhere you can do business online and communication is remote meetings. People may already have difficulties meeting other people face to face and solving problems between them. The quality of work changes when robots do heavy and simple jobs. In my hometown, a bus without a driver was tried for a short distance. It knew how to stop at every stop. New skills and innovations are needed for new types of jobs. In the future scenarios, it was predicted that drones would increase, which can already be seen sadly in war zone. The vulnerability of information technology has been tested by cutting communication cables at the bottom of the sea. However digitalization makes people’s everyday lives easier, but people must retain decision-making power.
