My current job and using of digital tools at daily work:

I am working as a project manager in one consulting company. Currently my responsibility is to manage / control certain side projects of the sewage treatment plant on behalf of the owner. This means that different kind of communication tools are in very essential role when I am executing this job daily.

In our company we are using following digital tools:

Teams; Nearly all meetings are remotely, also communication between team members and groups will happen with this tool.

Microsoft Office tools like Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point; These tools have been in daily use since they were released.

Navisworks; This tool is used to view the 3D model of some plant.

BEM; This is cloud based project data bank.

Company internal news and message tool; This is used for internal communication in the company.

Social Media:

I am using social media daily basis mainly for private purposes. From the company (where I am working) point of view my communication or information distribution is not essential, because our client will release needed social media data in the project I am working. So only use of social media could be discussion channel between my team or my project members, which means that there is limited access for others.

I could you use/ following social media tools:

Slack; This is messaging app for business which helps people to communicate with each other in the company or team internally. Consider data which you are distributing if it will be misused somehow. Be careful.

Miro; This is the online collaborative whiteboard platform to bring teams together. This tool could help our actions during meetings when brainstorming phase is going on. This is excellent tool when working remotely, but in the case that all are present in the same meeting room, might be possible to use traditional methods (when Covid is over).

Whatsup; This messaging tool can be used when needed to communicate to somebody fast by writing or leaving voice messages. Also photos, links, files or videos are possible to distribute within certain group. Concerning photos, files or videos, please consider what happens if this data will be stolen and/or misused. Also, please keep calling also in your work tool kit.

Evernote; This tool helps to make notes, to-do lists and schedules easily, to write them or speak them. Currently I am using my diary / calendar for planning daily activities and to-do lists. Also note that what kind of information you are distributing here.

LinkedIn; In the case we need more human resources, this could be the tool of the day. Also, it is a tool telling what is happening in the business world and what kind of releases of new products will happen just now.

I am using following tools nearly daily:

Facebook; Mainly only communication method when sending some comments or information to members of my Facebrook frends. Nearly in daily use.

Linkedin: More in professional use when reading news from my LinkedIn colleagues. Time to time I will add some comments or “thumbs”.

Whatsup; This tool I am using weekly basis within family members adding photos or videos. Also I would like inform my frends after cathing “big fishes”.

Self Evaluation:

1st tool in my use concerning some kind of digital media was the tool text message. This happened over 27 years ago, when I received my 1st mobile phone from my employer. 2nd step was when I was starting to use Facebook over 15 years ago. After that came Whatsup. So I have to say that using of new social media tools have not been or even is now that I am stepping in in first wave when something new happens at this area. Mainly challenges to start using new tools are coming from my children or my friends.

Anyway I can easily see benefits of these new tools and they support my social life and make geographical distances to disappear.
