DIGI CITIZEN

KELA (National Pension Institute)

I have used Kela’s services when applying for family benefits. I received maternity allowance from Kela in 2004, 2005 and 2012, as well as care-free allowance in 2014. A few years ago, we ordered European medical cards for my family, which means that acute treatment should be available at the same price as citizen of that country. The European Health Insurance Card, EHIC is used in EU and EEA countries, Switzerland, Great Britain and Northern Ireland. On Kela’s website, I also received an invoice for the Finnish Student Health Service (abbreviation YTHS) health care fee. Payment information can be found on OmaKela’s website.

OMAKANTA

I can into Omakanta (www.kanta.fi) with my bank credentials. From Omakanta, I can look at the results of blood tests that I go to from time to time, as well as doctors’ statements about my visits. I have a treatment will, in which I can define my special wishes or refuse certain treatment procedures. You never know what’s going to happen in life, and that’s why everyone should take care of themselves. I can make an organ donation will in Omakanta, whereby I would give permission for my organs and tissues to be transplanted after my death. I have thought about this and still haven’t made a decision. On the other hand, this way I could save someone’s life.

KEVA (formerly Municipal Pension Insurance)

I follow my pension intake every year and checked my retirement age. I will retire at 66 years and 6 months, when my pension will be 3,000 euros. My target retirement age is 68 years and 7 months, in which case my pension would be around 3,500 euros. If I continued working until I was 70, my pension would be 3,900 euros. I have thought that I will leave working life before my retirement age and I have made investments for that. I want to enjoy a freedom life as I get older. I know many people who have left the working life and really enjoy their healthy life.

Digital shop

I use domestic online stores Dermoshop and Kärkkäinen. I go shopping in stores if necessary, I want to support local entrepreneurship, and warranty issues for goods are handled more easily. I have become cautious because my son ordered car parts from a foreign online store and his card information was hijacked. Fortunately, he receives text messages about purchases on the phone where he noticed the abuse. The card was closed and replaced with a new one. Visa reimbursed him for the purchases. I haven’t made purchases from Zalando, ebay and Amazon’s online stores, even though the prices are cheaper than in the store. I buy from Finnish online stores, it also has an employment effect. I’ve used Trivago and Booking.com to compare accommodation prices for vacations. Sometimes you can find really good accommodation offers.

Online services

In the rental operation, the websites vuokraovi.com, etuovi.com and tori.fi are used, where you can view an to compare apartments for rent. We use tori.fi, which has been found to be efficient and affordable. We put all vacant housing on the tori.fi website. You can upload pictures to the announcements, but we have rarely been able to post pictures them because the apartments have been rented. The notifications made are checked on behalf of tori.fi and then they are published by them on the site.

Digitization and the digital gap

Digitization makes managing things easier in a busy society, but we also have to remember the people who don’t use online services. In my work, I have often heard that some people don’t want to use digital services on principle, and some just haven’t learned how to use digital services. Society’s services are already largely digitized and this can bring challenges for people who do not use them. We should also remember that if the networks crash, we have backup systems and I think they could be applied to people who don’t want to use online services.

In working life, we must be learned all the time new in order to keep up with the pace of development. I think this can be a challenge for some at work and it also has its risks in terms of the employee’s ability to cope.

The Digital Competence Wheel

The result of the digital competence wheel was as follows. Communication, security and digital design are my strengths. The result also tells about my character, I am social and cooperation with different parties and it´s important to me. Production was the weakest link. The ability to create and modify new digital solutions and problems is not my strongest area of expertise, in the future, I need to strengthen these. I believe that they will be needed more in the future.

Self-assessment of learning

While doing the task, I noticed my own weaknesses and strengths. I also learned a lot about blogging for the first time. It was interesting to get to know the tasks and thoughts of others. I don’t think I will change the way I use digital services. I like meeting people and that’s why I continue on my own path.
