KELA
Kela is supervised by Finnish Parliament. It is an independent social security institution, with its own finances and administration. Kela is giving to my family child benefit. Child benefit is paid for children under the age of 17. During my pregnancy i got the maternity package (including clothes and care supplies for the baby) from Kela. It is also possible to get European health insurance card from Kela. It is free to get, and you receive necessary treatment if you travel temporary in another European country.
OmaKanta
You can easily check your own health information, prescriptions, renew recipes, print sick leave certificate, check laboratory test results, print EU corona certificate and check out the doctor´s / nurses notes from OmaKanta. Because patients have access to important health information and health instructions of themselves, it increases patient safety and reduces the burden on healthcare as well. Usually I check after the doctors appointment what they have written to my patient information and check laboratory test results.
KEVA
My retirement age is 67 years. If I work for two years more my penson would be hundreds of euros better. The pension system encourages to work longer than the planned retirement age. Before this course I hadn`t visited Keva website. I found it very informative and easy to understand. It is easy to plan your own financial goal for retirement with the help of the information of the site.
Online Shops
Usually, I am ordering clothes from Zalando and Boozt. I prefer online shopping because I feel it´s saving my time. Some products are well described (is the size normal or larger or smaller than usually that size is), but sometimes I have made wrong purchase decisions. Usually I prefer finnish companies, because I feel they are more reliable, even I know that there is always a risk of data leak. If it is possible I use PayPal to make purchases, because it helps to protect me from online scams. If an order doesen’t show up, arrives damaged, or differs from description I can get full refund from PayPal. I prefer online shopping also because some quality products are cheaper to buy from online. If I am traveling in Finland, I usually check hotel prices from Booking.com, but I also check the prices from other websites (e.g. from the hotel`s own website, Trivago).
Teams (Microsoft)
Teams is one of the most important communication application at my work. Teams makes possible to work together anytime, create different Teams, and share the latest information (no matter the time). I usually sent direct messages to my team members, and we also have Teams meetings every now and then. In Teams you can also find all meeting notes and announcements in one place. Some workers may have challanges to use the Teams, and they need more guidance than others. It is employer´s responsibility to train employees on the applications that are used in the company.
Digitalization and digital gap
Digitalization is taking a bigger part of people’s lives. Our smartphones or other devices are becoming the center of professional and personal life. People might have differences in economic, cultural, cognitive or in generational issues. Digitization should enable the availability of service, in such a way that technology doesn’t prevent getting a service, for example some people can´t afford to buy the latest technology. Digitization isn´t the problem – ignoring the human side of it is.
The Digital Competence Test
Self-reflection
I have previous experience with applications/services that were part of this course material (Keva, OmaKanta, Kela). I haven´t done the Digital Competence test before. I found it gave me a lot of information about my own skills and the things that I need to improve myself. I have learned during this course material a lot of new English words related to the digital environment and technology. This course has also been a good reminder that we cant trust too much to technology and it shouldn´t guide us too much. Digital services are made to serve us and should support security, improve up-to-date information and act as support for better communication.
