LEARNING SKILLS
I have increased more in knowledge from the start of my internship by working with the young people, my mentors and the employee. I have been working according to the goals and objectives I set for the internship. I ask questions and open to corrections from my mentors when I make a mistake.
ETHICS COMPETENCE
Upholding nursing principles and remaining professional throughout my practice was my goal. I have followed the Mental Health Act, patient rights, and nursing standards while putting ethical concepts into practice under the direction of my mentor.
EDUCATION AND TEACHING COMPETENCE
Having an effective communication with client is an important aspect of nursing. I learn more Finnish language from the unit, employee and young people. I communicate more with the young people in Finnish. Although, I do not speak so good yet, but I can use the basic Finnish vocabulary.
WORK COMMUNITY COMPETENCE
I find it easy to work together with different multiprofessional team such as social worker, teachers, nurses to assist patients with mental health problems.
EVIDENCE-BASED NURSING AND DECISION-MAKING
Evidence-based practices, which are governed by pertinent laws and regulations, are crucial to the nursing professions of mental health and substance abuse. The theoretical knowledge has been an important factor during my mental health internship.
AVEKKI course techniques has been helpful when patients are aggressive and angry towards themselves or the nurses. The AVEKKI techniques provide safety for both patients and the nurses.
CULTURAL COMPETENCE
Regardless of the patient belief or cultural backgrounds, my aim is to keep the patient privacy private during and after the mental health and substance abuse internship.
CLINICAL NURSING COMPETENCE
Personally, I think the clinical nursing competence in mental health unit is quite different from every other nursing field. The most important intervention for me is creating nurse-client relationship.
I learnt more about pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatments for every patient. Therefore, I assess patient situations, clients need, report of their daily activities, ADHD medications and patients care planning
