MID EVALUATION (PREOP)

MID EVALUATION

The third week of my internship is the reflection of my goals and objectives for the perioperative internship. I have been able to witness the preoperative and postoperative procedures during the few weeks at the internship. I have been able to demonstrate my nursing skills at the unit by helping the patient with the blood sugar, blood pressure, changing their clothes and administering medications. My mentors have shown me how to take care of different wounds, changing of bandage, removing of cannulation and documentation.

ETHICAL KNOWLEDGE AND PROFESSIONALISM: I am proud to keep patient privacy private for both preoperative and postoperative caring. As a nurse, I always offer all patients fair and equal treatment regardless of their socioeconomic background, race, or other characteristics. I try to guide and mentor the patient at the postoperative before going home.

LEARNING COMPETENCE: My learning competence is to able put my theoretical knowledge into practice. I was able to acquire the information, abilities, dispositions, and moral reasoning required to deliver safe and efficient surgical treatment for patients, for example how to help the patient for preoperative and post operative.

WORKING COMMUNITY SKILLS: I have familiarized myself with the hospital environment and its environs. Collaborations with multiprofessional is very essential in preoperative and postoperative care. Luckily for me, I managed to work closely with the physiotherapist and the doctors. During the postoperative, the physiotherapist has an important role to play with the nurses to help the patients’ recovery better.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: I think my communication skills has improved immensely compared to my previous internships. I have managed to communicate effectively with the patient by giving instructions and helping them with the basic needs. Although, I still need to improve in some aspect. When i am unsure about something, i always ask for questions for a better understanding and clarification. Sometimes, I ask for feedback and give feedback too depending on the situation.

CLINICAL SKILLS: medication is important for patient recovery after every operation to ease the pain. I administered pain medicine such as oxynorm under the guidance of my mentor. Before giving the medicine, we double check the identity, date, dosage and all the necessary things. I gave antibiotics to patient, remove cannulations from patients before going home to check complications or signs of infections. My confidence and proficiency in these duties have increased because of mentoring and theoretical understanding.

QUALITY OF SOCIAL AND HEALTH CARE SERVICEI prioritize patient safety by maintaining cleanliness, following protocols, and guaranteeing precise instrument counts during operations, aided by theoretical knowledge and guidance.
