WEEK 2
At the start of the second week, I and my colleague were already familiar with the preoperative environment. Fortunately, we worked in traumatology and orthopaedic department under the guidance of our mentors. We were mentored by different nurses which enable us to learn different techniques on how to help the patients.
During the second week, we learnt how to prepare the patient for surgery and how to treat them after surgery. Our mentors showed us the importance of NEWS PISTET and how to use the automatic vital signs checking machine or hospital vital monitors (Torni). The torni machine made it easier to check the many features from the patient such as blood pressure, oxygen saturation, pulse rate, temperature level and many more.
However, we spent a day with the pharmacists to see how the medicine was dispensed to the patients, how to arrange the medicine for the right patient and how to calculate each medicine before administering it. We were thought on how to use the automatic dispenser machine to help give the right medicine and to the right patient. At the end of the day, the pharmacist gave us some drug calculation assignment to help us master our calculation level in practice.
