ETHICS AND PROFESSIONALISM IN NURSING
Throughout my internship, I adhered to nursing ethics and respected patients’ autonomy by respecting their choices about their treatment, including not taking medicine. I kept absolute secrecy and regarded each patient as an individual, avoiding making assumptions about them based on their past. I respected my responsibility as a student, followed unit procedures, showed there on time, and asked questions to get clarification. To increase my understanding, particularly of common diseases like childhood trauma or mental problems, I actively sought out comments, took notes on important details, and engaged in self-study.
CUSTOMER-ORIENTED APPROACH AND CLINICAL SKILLS
Through chats and activities like games, walks, and gym sessions, my internship improved my understanding of schizophrenia and my capacity to connect with patients. I developed a relationship with a designated patient and learned more about their health. Through mentorship and a Lääkeinfo session, I also gained confidence in interacting with patients who have mental health issues and learnt about drugs like ketipinor, melatonin, and weekly vitamin D. I made a mistake While dispensing weekly medications, my mentor corrected me and showed me how to improve my drug calculations.
COMPETENCE-BASED NURSING AND DECISION-MAKING
I read the Mental Health Act to comprehend unit practices and kept up with best practices through Terveysportti and the BNF. I participated in care decision meetings and interacted with a multidisciplinary team that included nurses, social workers, psychiatrists, and edustaja. My mentor has demonstrated how to incorporate our patients into the Finnish healthcare system, including scheduling a consultation with the doctor when they begin to experience emotional, psychological, or mental difficulties. I initially found it difficult to document in Finnish, but with the encouragement and assistance of my mentor, I was able to get better and document on my own. Additionally, working closely with the professionals and young people has helped me get better at speaking Finnish.
QUALITY AND SAFETY IN SOCIAL AND HEALTHCARE SERVICES
In the ward, safety came first. I ensured access to safety alarms and keys by putting my AVEKKI training to use, according to procedures, and remaining watchful. I disposed of needles or any sharp objects carefully, avoided being by myself with confrontational patients, and asked for advice before engaging in lengthy patient exchanges. I honed my intuition to predict patients’ emotions and react accordingly. I greatly improved my mental health nursing skills with mentor guidance, and I anticipate continuing to develop.

Harjoittelu on hyväksytty.
