PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND GOALS

1. ETHICS AND PROFESSIONALITY IN NURSING
Level of Competence:

I have a solid understanding of nursing ethics from previous internships, and I can manage schedules, respect boundaries, communicate with the young people and co-workers, and respond positively to criticism. I have worked in Lastensuojelu before; this has given me good experience on how to work with the young people.

Goals: I need to apply more ethics into practice in difficult situations, particularly when clinical or policy decisions conflict with patient autonomy.

How: I intend to seek advice on moral choices from a mentor, examine actual situations, research relevant legislation, and reflect through journaling and mentor advice.

2.COMPETENCE-BASED NURSING AND DECISION MAKING
Level of Competence: I apply evidence-based care, linking actions to science, and master my documentation in Finnish language.

Goals: I must include recent findings into my decisions, especially when it comes to mental health. Also, I need to improve my writing skills in Finnish language.

How: I’ll analyse recent research on mental health for practical purposes and work consistently to improve my Finnish proficiency under the guidance of a mentor.

3.CUSTOMER-ORIENTED APPROACH AND CLINICAL SKILLS
Level of Competence: I excel in providing individualized patient care, working in teams, and securely managing drug administration.

Goals: I must build a good relationship with the young people to help them.

Interventions: To incorporate patients’ social and mental resources into care, I will observe my mentor closely and learn about patient-focused communication and psychosocial techniques.

4. QUALITY AND SAFETY IN SOCIAL AND HEALTH CARE SERVICES

Level of competence: I put safety first, considering social, emotional, and physical care, and I make good use of ISBAR, NEWS, and ABCDE.

Goals: To prevent injuries, I need improved ergonomics and more experience with safety in mental health settings.

How to achieve the goals: I will adhere to mental health safety procedures, improve ergonomics, draw on my previous internship experience, and make sure that all communications are clear for safety. By focusing on these areas with introspection, guidance, and cooperation, I will develop strong nursing skills for issues related to mental health and drug abuse.
